Thurston Council III affectionately known as “Roy” was born on October 25, 1967 to the late Thurston Council II and the late Dorothy Williams. He was sent to his eternal home on June 11, 2025 at ECU Medical Center. Thurston received his education from the New York City education system. He attended Automotive H.S., and after graduating he chose to go into the workforce. His very first job was working with the New York City sanitation department as a mechanic fixing the sweepers on the truck, after that he found enjoyment working with children who were disabled and/or kids with behavioral issues, he was a counselor. Thurston excelled in that field where he was certified to issue medications. Thurston “Roy” relocated to North Carolina in the early 2000s to be close to mom. He continued his employment at The Ronald McDonald House for approximately 4yrs in housekeeping and maintenance and servicing families whose children were hospitalized. He started working for ECU in housekeeping and maintenance. He held that position for approximately 10yrs. Thurston again started working with kids who had behavioral issues, this is where he found solace. Thurston was a shining light to all who knew him. His journey on this earth was marked by love, and compassion for his family and friends. His passion for ALL children was a gift, Thurston loved them all the same, but gave more time to the preteens and teenagers, there was nothing he wouldn’t do to help them along their journey, whether it be giving advice, mentoring, or just listening. This was his gift from God (patience). Growing up in Brooklyn New York, Thurston would cut the neighborhood boys hair for Easter. Cutting hair was also a gift. Thurston “Roy” loved representing BROOKLYN, NY he had fitted ball caps in every color and style. Those who knew “Roy” will remember him for his infectious smile and overwhelming laughter, his deep-rooted love for his wife, children, and family spreading love and kindness to everyone he encountered. He had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path. Thurston is preceded in death by his parents, Thurston Council II and Dorothy Council-Williams. He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his Wife Sheila Frizzell- Council of the home; his step- father, Ronald Williams of Greenville, NC; his daughter, Nitavia Clemmons of Coram, NY; his son , Jordan Council (Leila) of Evans, Mills, NY; his siblings, Mattie Council of Greenville, NC, Gladys Council (Dave Miles) of Greenville, NC, Wallace Council (Wannetta) of Greenville, NC, Charlene Council-Watson (Scott) of Greenville, NC, Richard Council (Tujuana) of New York City; two step-sisters, Brenda Williams of Greenville, NC, Gwen White of Edenton, NC; one brother to the family, Simon Anderson of Greenville, NC, four grandchildren, Jayla Young-Clemmons, Janai Young, Saint Council, and Sevyn Council; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
