Mrs. Shirley A. Brown

“For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ, which is far better:” Philippians‬ ‭1‬:‭23‬ ‭KJV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Mrs. Shirley Runell Adams Brown entered eternal rest on July 02, 2025, at the age of 83. She was surrounded by the love and prayers of family and friends and passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord. Born on February 07, 1942 to Cotelious Adams and Ernest M. Fogg in Greenville, NC, Shirley lived a life marked by grace, faith, and service. She received baptism at 12 years old and at 17 years old accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior. Thereafter, she began a life-long mission to fulfill the Great Commission. She attended South Ayden High School from which she graduated in 1962. She and Leroy Cox Brown married on June 14, 1963. Their union produced six children. Shirley attended and completed the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program at Pitt Technical Institute (now Pitt Community College). As a CNA, Shirley worked at Pitt County Memorial Hospital (now ECU Health), Greenville Villa Nursing Home, and as an in-home health care provider. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, godmother, friend, and a faithful servant of God whose light touched many lives. Shirley was an active member of Greater Morning Star Holy Church of Deliverance in Ayden, NC where she found joy in worship, fellowship, and living out the teachings of Christ. Her unwavering faith carried her through life’s trials and served as a living testimony to those around her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Cotelious Fogg; husband, Leroy Cox Brown; sons, Gregory M. Brown and Eric A. Brown; grandson, Darious M. Brown; sister, Virginia D. Maye; and brothers, Earnest Foggs and Willie J. Foggs, Sr. Shirley is survived by her children: Keisha (Curtis), Monty (Dawn), Berry (Deloris), and Kerry (Tammy); one stepdaughter, Bernadette; 17 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; goddaughter, Robin Wilson; and a host of loving family and friends. The family would like to extend special recognition and gratitude to granddaughter Kedara Phillips and for her exceptional dedication and service. “Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” Matthew‬ ‭25‬:‭23‬ ‭KJV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ “But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.” (1 Thessalonians‬ ‭4‬:‭13‬ ‭KJV‬‬). We rejoice in the promise that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬
