On August 29, 1951 in a small town called Williamston, North Carolina, the late Ralph Langley and Magnolia Langley welcomed an adorable sunshine to their family, and preciously named her Pattie Langley. Pattie was a lifelong friend and sister to each of her siblings. She received her early education in Martin County Public Schools and Pitt County Public Schools, and later continued her education at Montgomery Community College in Troy, North Carolina where she developed her artistic skills in the Fine Art A.F.A. Printmaking Program. At a very early age, Pattie surrendered her life to Christ and accepted Him as her personal Lord and Savior. Her unwavering faith as a young adult led her to discipleship at the English Chapel Free Will Baptist Church-Greenville, North Carolina. For years, Pattie served as one of the church’s cooks preparing meals for church gatherings and ensuring the kitchen was clean and well-maintained while working with other disciples to serve meals efficiently. She also was appointed to serve as a Mother of the church and enjoyed serving as a role model for young women in the church as well as assisting the church in simple things like visiting and feeding the sick and shut-in. She was a faithful working disciple for numerous years. Being a resident in Pitt County, North Carolina, Pattie met her future husband, the late Charles Vest, and soon after meeting him they went from “going steady” to newlyweds. Throughout the years of their marriage until his demise, Pattie enjoyed happiness, harmony and love with her husband. Pattie was a very loving mother to her two children -Leon Langley and the late Teresa Langley. She took pride instilling in them important values like love, empathy, kindness, honesty, responsibility, respect for others, resilience, and a strong work ethic. For over 30 years, Pattie worked at Morgan Printers, Incorporated where she used her creative expertise to custom design and print artwork for unique projects for customers. The vision of the customer was important to her, and she took pride in bringing their vision to life. Pattie’s love for her family was a central part of her life and motivations. She placed a high value on her family relationships. She passively encouraged and pushed her children, grandchildren, family and friends to have a closer relationship with God. She was a humbles, sweet-spirit, very business-minded Mother who was very savvy and skilled in business matters, often thinking strategically with a practical approach about managing, saving and spending money. In her spare time, Pattie had a strong passion for growing plants and flowers. She was very skilled with a natural talent for nurturing and easily making plants grow well. Throughout her home and outdoors, she always had blooming plants and marked every one of her flowers and plants with a name. Pattie was a woman who took pleasure in mowing her own law, trimming her own bushes, raking leaves, placing concrete Jesus yard statues and concrete angels in her yard, all because she found satisfaction in the neat appearance of her lawn and it was even more therapeutic for her as she enjoyed the fresh air outdoors. On February 4, 2025, the angels descended in the early morning hours from heaven and guided Mother Pattie Langley Vest to her eternal rest just as he did some years ago with her parents -Ralph and Magnolia Langley, her husband -Charles Vest, her daughter -Teresa Langley, and her siblings -Joyce Robinson and Preston Langley. To cherish her legacy, she will be remembered on earth by her one and only devoted, loving and caring son -Leon Langley; her grandson -Aidan Savage whom she cared for in her home after the passing of her daughter; her grandchildren -Kevon Gainer, LaMysia Durham, Teosha Langley, Leosha Langley, Leequan Langley, and Kylen Downing; her great grandchildren -Na’lij Rascoe, Rezyn’ Rascoe, and Kaz Hawkins; her siblings - Johnny Langley, Lillie Belle Hooks, Benjamin Langley, and James Langley; her special cousin -Willie Andrews who was like a brother to her; her special friend -Nicole McNair; and a host of relatives and friends.
