So great is his unfailing love.” Lamentations 3:32 Nelson Elwood Murray, AKA “Red”, departed his earthly home on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 9:35 am. Nelson fought a good fight and finished his course. Nelson had strong faith in the Lord throughout his illness. Nelson was born at Harlem Hospital, New York, NY, to the late David and Eva Murray. He attended Aurora High School in North Carolina, and he graduated in New York, NY. Nelson was like a big brother to everyone. He was always helpful and giving of himself to others. He was compassionate, funny and a very loving guy. Nelson received his Certificate of Church Membership on June 3, 2017 at Williams Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, Orangeburg, SC. One of the things that everyone knew about Nelson was that he loved to drive trucks. He followed in his big brother’s footsteps with the love of driving trucks. Nelson worked for ESTES, one of the largest freight transportation companies of North America. When he moved to South Carolina in 2018 he left ESTES and joined XBL Industrial Materials Trucking Company. Nelson started driving as a young man. He drove until it could not drive anymore. He was forced to stop driving due to illness. Nelson was preceded in death by his parents, David and Eva Murray, one sister, Michelle Murray and his stepson, Thomas Jones, Jr.; in addition, three nephews, David Murray, III, Galvin Roberson, and Eugene Gardner. Nelson leaves to cherish his memory his fiancée, Alma Jones, four stepsons, Terrance Cornell Jones & Todd Edward Jones, Orangeburg, SC, Tony Hayes and Jamal Pena, Gray, ME; two brothers, Calvin Roberson (Lucile), Greenville, NC and David Murray (Lynn), Raeford, NC; two sisters, Gwendolyn Rivera, Bronx, NY and Melissa McLaughlin (Vernon), Raeford, NC; former wife and good friend Theresa Murray, Gray, ME; one aunt, Delzora Spencer, Edwards, NC; three special nieces, Felicia Perry (Bruce), New York, NY, Nicole Massey, Petersburg, VA and Danielle Gardner, New York, NY; one special nephew, Christopher Roberson, Greenville, NC; one special lady, Lucile Roberson, Greenville, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and friends.
