Leon Wallace “Ballie” Hines, son of the late Andrew Wallace and the late Peggy Hines Mabry, was born on August 9th, 1950, in Martin County, North Carolina. On Monday, February 16th, 2026, he quietly and peacefully surrendered to Jesus’ call. Leon spent his childhood days in Robersonville, North Carolina. He attended East End School and later enrolled in Job Corps, where he received his diploma. On March 16th, 1973, Leon devoted his life to Janice Lloyd in marriage of 52 years. In 1992, Leon was ordained as a Deacon at Roberson Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as Head Deacon until his passing. He loved the Lord and spent countless hours studying His Word. Leon deeply loved his family and his church family, always leading with strength, wisdom, and humility. While church and family was his devotion, watching television was also one of his favorite pastimes. He especially loved Western shows and Sports. During special moments with his wife, he enjoyed watching Family Feud and The Wall. Those simple times together meant everything to him. Leon was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and a friend to many. But he found his greatest joy in his children and grandchildren, but it was his great-grandchildren who truly stole his heart. Whenever they entered the room, his face would light up with the biggest smile. Avoree and A’Zariah quickly learned that they could get just about anything they asked for from their Papa. On February 16th, 2026, our Heavenly Father sent an angel to escort him into eternal rest. He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Wallace; his mother, Peggy Mabry; his stepfather, James Mabry; and his brothers, Ricky Hines and Corey Mabry. “As sand flows through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.” one of his favorite quotes. Leon leaves to cherish his precious memories to his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Janice Hines of the home; two daughters, Shelia Whitted (Thurman) of Fayetteville, NC, Jaunese Hines of Everetts, NC.; one son, Dontavious Hines (Lakia) of Zebulon, NC; he was a proud grandfather to two grandsons, Jalen Stancil of Atlanta, GA.; Deionte Stancil (Ellie) of Huntington Beach, CA; two granddaughters, Amiya Hines of the home and Bethany Little of Fayetteville, NC; he was also blessed with two great-granddaughters, A’Zariah and Avoree Hines of the home, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. Leon is also survived by eight sisters: Barbara J. Andrews and Loretta Dudley of Robersonville, NC, Patricia Stanton (Anthony) of Virginia Beach, VA, Linda Pugh of Windsor, NC, Brenda Morring (Freddy) of Raleigh, NC, Debra Armstrong (Hilton) of Robersonville, NC, Tammy Hines of Charlotte, NC, and Christine Wallace of Greenville, NC; four brothers, Charles Hines (Tammy) of Dallas, TX, Troy Hines (Shellette) of Virginia Beach, VA, Mark Lopez of New Jersey, NJ, and Andrew Wallace Jr. of Everetts, NC; stepmother, Simone Wallace of Everetts, NC; he is also lovingly remembered by his sisters-in-love, Mabel Carroll, Vanetta Lloyd, Carolyn Stancil, Kay F. Peele, and Maxine Pittman (Lewis); his brothers-in-love, Donnell Lloyd (Geraldine) and Ricky Lloyd (Mary). He shared a special bond with his extended brothers, Blake Little and Patrick Jones, and an extended sister, Renee. For over 50 years, he was blessed with a true friend who was like a brother, Lash Razor “Feet” who remained faithfully by his side until the very end; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
