Mrs. Joycelyn Clayton

Mrs. Joycelyn Lynnette Clayton, 50 of Mebane NC, went home to be with the Lord on March 11, 2023. On September 6, 1972 Joycelyn was born in Pitt County and grew up in Martin County. After she graduated from Roanoke High School she went on to study in Education and Counseling at North Carolina Central University where she graduated with her Masters. Joycelyn worked several years with C. A. Dillon Youth Development Center in Butner, N.C. in her education and counseling field. After leaving C. A. Dillon, she worked several years with Eastern Alamance High School in Mebane, N.C. in her counseling field. Joycelyn left the full-time education field to start subbing when able due to her health situation. Joycelyn retired from work in 2011 at the request of her loving husband due to increased health challenges. One of her favorite things to do was to be with her family. She enjoyed planning family reunions and loved to see all her family laughing and reminiscing. She also loved to watch the children play and would take time to ask them how school was going. Her and Jimmy loved to travel together and would often take cruises and stay at luxury 5-Star Resorts. Joycelyn and Jimmy often took their mothers (Mrs. Joyce Hyman (Billy) the late Ms. Geraldine Hassell), the late Aunt Maggie and other friends and family with them on their vacations without lodge costs. Joycelyn favorite symbol was a butterfly because it represented her Journey with Lupus. Joycelyn had an unwavering strength and a strong faith in the Lord. She had a kind gentle spirit which would exude from her wherever she went. One of her favorite songs is by Luther Barnes, God’s Grace. Joycelyn is survived by the love of her life Mr. Jimmy Clayton, whom she affectionately called her confidant, lover, and best friend; her parents, Mr. Curtis Howard (Dorothy) of Bethel, NC and Mrs. Joyce Hyman (Billy) of Robersonville, NC; her step-father, Larry Hyman (Emma) of Goldsboro, NC; her brothers, LeShay Hyman of Sacramento, CA, Curtis Howard Jr. (Tineka) of Bethel, NC, Kevin Howard (Jennifer) of Bethel, NC; her aunt, Peggy Wilson (Henry) of Parmele, NC, her uncles, James Matthewson (Ida) of Alabama, Charles Matthewson (Brenda) of Williamston, NC, and Donnie Matthewson (Paulette) of Fayetteville, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Joycelyn will always be remembered for her tenacity to live a Joyous life despite her Chronic Health Conditions. She truly lived her life to the fullest and has left a remarkable impression on all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
