Joseph Eugene Slade, Jr., affectionately known as "Joe," was born on January 18, 1943, in Glen Raven, North Carolina, to the late Edward Eugene Slade and Janie Odessa Slade. On Friday, July 17, 2026, he peacefully departed this earthly life at home, surrounded by the love of his family. Joe received his education in Burlington, North Carolina, before relocating to Stamford, Connecticut, where he met and married the love of his life, Peggy Louise Harrell. Together, they built a beautiful life founded on faith, love, and unwavering commitment, sharing 59 wonderful years of marriage. Throughout his career, Joe worked as a Dental Technician before becoming a Heavy-Capacity Scale Specialist, where he faithfully served for many years. In 1996, Joe and Peggy relocated to Robersonville, North Carolina, where they became proud business owners, operating J & P Sales for many years while faithfully serving their community. As a youth, Joe accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized. Years later, he recommitted his life to Christ at Conetoe Missionary Baptist Church, reaffirming the faith that would define his life. In 2005, Joe and Peggy united with Greenville Community Christian Church, where they remained devoted and faithful members until his passing. Joe's love for Christ was evident in both his words and his actions. He faithfully served in the Usher Ministry, Men's Ministry (The H.A.N.D.S.), and as a leader of the O.A.S.I.S. (Older Active Saints In Service) Ministry. Whether in church, at home, or in the community, Joe never missed an opportunity to share the love of Jesus and the truth of God's Word. His quiet strength, unwavering faith, wisdom, and servant's heart touched countless lives and left a legacy that will continue for generations. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Eugene Slade and Janie Odessa Slade, and his beloved sister, Lonnie Slade Oliver. He leaves to cherish his precious memory his devoted wife of 59 years, Peggy Louise Slade of Robersonville, NC; his son, Joseph Eugene Slade II (Rhoda Sabrina) of Charlotte, NC; granddaughters, Akira Slade and Briana Jackson-Slade (Carlton Harris Jr.) of Windsor, MD; bonus granddaughter, Brittany Covington of Milwaukee, WI; bonus grandsons, Bryan Covington of Charlotte, NC and Garris Covington V of Chicago, IL; great-grandson, Casey Harris of Windsor, MD; bonus great-grandson, Justin Brown Jr. of Milwaukee, WI; sisters, Earnestine Day Slade of Stamford, CT, and Peggy Slade Gray, widow of the late Willis Gray, of Burlington, NC; brothers, James Laddie Slade (Theresa) of Jamaica, Queens, New York, and Charles E. Slade, widower of the late Silvia Slade, of Robersonville, NC. He also leaves his beloved godchildren: Valencia Williams (Curtis) of Opelika, Al; Monica Crawford (Mike) of Greenville, NC; Minie Pearl Hill, Carolyn Sue Hill of Robersonville, NC; and Charles Knight (Marquetta), of Greenville, NC; Rontae and Shar Johnson of Penscola, FL; Nikkia Johnson of Stamford, CT; Iesha Johnson of Bridgeport, CT, Bidy Mae Worsley of Bridgeport, CT, and Tyron Bridges (Elizangela) of Miami, FL. He is also survived by his special spiritual brother, General James Moore (Brenza); special friend, Dorothy Hill-Knight; special niece, Dishawn Desenclos (Lesly) of Bridgeport, CT; special cousin, Angela Haith of Burlington, NC; special cousin-in-law, Hattie Ray Hopkins of Robersonville, NC; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and dear friends who loved him deeply and were blessed by his life. Though Joe's earthly journey has ended, his legacy of unwavering faith, steadfast love, humble service, and devotion to Jesus Christ lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
