Finding peace has always been a struggle for me Champ, being able to find contentment with life’s shenanigans and play the hand that I was dealt, in hopes that someday I would hit the jackpot……….I was just never prepared to WIN and LOSE at the same time. …………. Every morning, every day was the best growing up under you supervision. I’ve never seen a man prouder of his son regardless of what situation I could myself in.., from my first step as a child, to my first accomplishment as a man, and every step I took in between the good ones and the not so good ones. Nothing like those Saturday mornings as a child around the magnolia with “BONE” wiping your rims off, cleaning your windows, or just riding in the Cutlas or the LTD going fishing, just to sit there and catch nothing. Didn’t matter, just that time with you was great. And Then Life Happened I wasn’t prepared for the daytime stood still. I had no clue what adult life was. All I know is I wanted my dad……… The first true example of strength and the meaning of the word STRONG. You chose LOVE over pain and made yourself uncomfortable to spend as much time with US as possible. I felt your peace and calmness before you even spoke the words. I saw you humble and content. And for the first time in my life, I heard you speak love and peace over all. Having no Ill will or feelings about anything. Still rejoicing in the fact that you had life, your children, and your family. Having an opportunity to build a bond and a relationship with you after so many years apart is a true blessing from the Most High and a reminder to my Family and Friends. “THAT LOVE CONQUERS ALL”. Many of us transition without knowing our actual worth to the people we invest our time, love and effort into. You have always been a man of few words, but an emotion without action is just a word anyway, you’ve chosen action over words, you chose love. I guess what’s understood really doesn’t need to be spoken. Being able to shower you with love, admiration, and respect, with the time we spent together under the magnolia will always be my greatest memory. I was always told that I wouldn’t amount to anything that I’d be dead, that I’d spend my life in prison. That I’d be just like my father. Well Champ. I’ve been dead, I’ve spent more than enough time locked up so now I smile upon the world as my father would, maybe they said those things to hurt me but you’re the greatest man I know, so to be like you is an honor and a privilege. I’ll never be half the man you are, But I’ll wear that badge with honor and pride to be your son. I’ll continue to ride south on every safe return home, in hopes that you’re sitting “Down By The Magnolia”, waiting to hear about my week and tell me about yours. You’re a great dad definitely a great listener and I thank you for the wisdom intellect and understanding you’ve shown me over the years and for always being my #1 fan and allowing me the honor of being your son.
