Ms. Jo Ann Short

Jo Ann Short was born on October 19, 1948 to the late Edward Arthur Short, Sr. & Gladys Duncan-Short in Greenville, NC. She departed this life on Saturday, January 8, 2022. Jo Ann graduated from C.M. Eppes High School with honors in 1967. After graduating from high school, Jo Ann won a scholarship to Baltimore College of Commerce (1967-1969) and graduated with an Associates Degree in Business Administration. Jo Ann moved to Washington, DC and graduated from Washington Secretarial School of Business 1970, while working full time at Interstate Commerce Commission Government for three years. After the death of Jo Ann’s father, she relocated back to Greenville, NC to take care of her mother who was ill. Jo Ann worked for Burroughs Welcome Pharmaceutical Company for 17-1/2 years before going out on disability 1994. Five years after the death of Jo Ann’s mother, she decided to return back to college, and she received an Associates degree in Office System Technology from Pitt Community College in 2005. In 2007, Jo Ann received a Bachelor’s degree from Shaw University in Business Management. In 2008-2012 Jo Ann received two Master’s degree from Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa. A Master’s degree in Business Management, and a Master’s degree in Human resource management. Finally, in 2012 Jo Ann received a Master’s degree in International Business from American InterContinental University, in Chicago, Ill., by taking all classes on-line. Jo Ann went to her first graduation ceremony in Clinton, Iowa and decided she didn’t want to go to anymore graduation ceremonies. Jo Ann became a member of Brown’s Chapel Holiness Church at an early age under the leadership of the late Bishop Raymond A. Griswould, then Elder Bobby L. Wooten. In 2013, she joined New Beginnings Deliverance Center Inc., under the leadership of Pastor Mary V. Sheppard where she attended until her death. Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Arthur Short, Sr. & Gladys Duncan-Short; six brothers, Edward Earl Short, Edward Arthur Short, Jr, Jimmy Short, Arlander Short, Sr, Willie Arthur Lee “Pete’” Short, James Edward Short; one sister, Mildred Ann Short. Jo Ann leaves to cherish her memories a loving and praying God-mother, Pastor Mary V. Sheppard, five God-sisters, Virginia Ellison (Parker), Evangelist Cindy Keels (Ronald), Beverly Langley (Ernie), Melody Ellison (Mack), Lisa Sheppard; three God-brothers, Jesse L. Sheppard, Jr.,(Mary), Ashley Sheppard (Kim), Monty Sheppard; New Beginnings Deliverance Center Family; one God-son, Dominique Sheppard; one God-daughter, Shmekkia Carney; one God-granddaughter, Ashanti Sheppard; two God-grandsons, Zyquavion “Little D” Carney, Jorzavion Green-Carney; a very special niece, Cassandra Baker-Jones (Nat); a special nephew, Julius Wilson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
