Rev. Dr. Janet Marie Bullock

Dr. Janet Marie Bullock was born on November 17, 1950 in Warrenton, NC to the late Deacon Daniel Bullock, Sr. and Deaconess Mary Frances Bullock. Dr. Bullock education has always been at the front and center of her life. She graduated from Johnson C. Smith University with honors in 1972. While at Johnson C. Smith, Dr. Bullock was inducted in the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. She received a Master’s Degree in education from NC A&T State University in Greensboro, NC. Thereafter, she received her Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) Degree in Administration and Supervision which is a six-year post master’s degree from East Carolina University, Greenville, NC. This degree is designed to prepare individuals for senior leadership positions in education. She received her Ph.D. in Adult Education from NC State University in Raleigh, NC. Dr. Bullock began her career as a teacher in the Surry County School System in Mount Airy, NC, in 1968. Over the next three decades, Dr. Bullock taught in the Wake County, Greene County and Pitt County School systems. She was the Director of Admissions at Barton College in Wilson, NC. She really enjoyed assisting the freshman as they began their college experience. Dr. Bullock was ordained into the ministry by the Old Eastern Missionary Baptist Association. Her faith and belief in Almighty God have always been paramount in her life. Rev. Dr. Janet Bullock was very active at Sycamore Hill Missionary Baptist Church serving on the Ministerial Staff. She enjoyed teaching Bible Classes for the youth and adults. Rev. Dr. Bullock desire for all was to have the very best education experience. This led to her starting the JMB’s Tutorial Service, Inc., in 1984. The tutor sessions met in neighboring libraries, homes and at the church. The motto was “Looking Better to Yourself.” The goal of Rev. Dr. Bullock’s JMB’s Tutorial Services was to use the tutoring sessions to improve their awareness of the deterrents to good communicate and a good education. Some deterrents included drug abuse, teenage pregnancy and juvenile crime. The primary purpose of JMB’s Tutorial Service was to individualize educational assistance to educationally disadvantaged and economically deprived youth and adult citizens in Eastern North Carolina. Rev. Dr. Bullock was preceded in death by her parents, Deacon Daniel and Deaconess Mary Frances Bullock; loving sister, Deaconess Patricia L. Chadwick; devoted grandfather and grandmother, Irvin Johnson and Lucy C. Johnson “Mama Lucy;” uncle, Henderson T. Bullock; aunts, Susie Cotton and Lena Williams. Rev. Dr. Bullock leaves to cherish her memory, her brother and caretaker, Deacon Daniel Bullock, Jr (Mary) of Greenville, NC; a sister, Juanita Bullock of Greenville, NC; a brother-in-law, Rev. Jesse Chadwick; nieces, Jessica and Kristina Chadwick of Winterville, NC; cousins, Barbara Trotter of Petersburg, VA, Luther H. Trotter III of Los Angeles, CA, Clinton Ferrell (Etta) of St. Albany, NY, Gloria Stradford (Bennie) of St. Albany, NY, Deloris Beamon of Baltimore, MD, Judge Deborah Buie (Kevin) of Columbia, MD, David Williams of New York, NY, Henderson Bullock, Jr. of New Jersey; a host of other relatives and friends.
