Mr. James Clemons

Trustee James Henry Clemons was a loving husband, father, son, brother, brother-in-law, cousin, and friend. James was born February 23, 1954, to Eva Spruill Clemons and the late Henry Johnson Clemons. He departed this life on Monday, March 13, 2023. James attended Pitt County Schools and ventured to the Job Corp in Kentucky, where he learned so many wonderful trades. He worked at National Spinning in Washington, NC, and later retired from East Carolina University after working in the Paint Shop for 3 decades. James was a lover of people and never met a stranger. He could talk on any subject and leave them with a profound statement on the love of Christ. James joined Hayes Chapel Missionary Baptist Church during his early years of marriage. He later united with Triumph Missionary Baptist Church. Under the leadership of Pastor Joe D. Shaw, James worked in the church whenever and wherever he was needed. He was productive whether it was cooking, cleaning, gardening, or lawn care. James enjoyed cooking and sharing his food with whoever came by. His garden would feed a multitude of people. He would cook and freeze the vegetables from his garden and did not hesitate to share them, feeding people near and far. James was a jack of all trades. He would just look at a pattern and build. He was a great carpenter, builder, painter, and mechanic. There weren't many things he could not figure out how to fix or create. James was adored by everyone who knew him. He could make you laugh and keep you smiling. He would remember times and situations others had forgotten. His favorite song was “God Has Always Stood by My Side,” which exemplified his love and relationship with Jesus Christ, which he could talk about for hours. James was preceded in death by his father, Henry Johnson Clemons and his sister, Carolyn Guyton, (Steve). James leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 38 years, Vounghie Clemons; daughter, Aspen and grand dog Bailey; his mother, Eva Clemons; brothers, Bobby Ray Spruill (Myrtle Rue), Larry Ray Clemons (Shirley), and William Earl Clemons; sisters, Lorraine Nicholas, Doris Clemons, Betty Joe Morning (Garland), and Joyce Ann Clemons Ebron (Burnice); in-laws, James Williams (Sherell), Irish Clemons, (Levi), Helen Williams-Anderson (Clinton), Sharon Tyson (Mike), Diane Williams ; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
