Helen Louise Dixon was born to the late Reverend Levi Dixon and Eliza A. Thigpen on October 26, 1930 in Bethel, North Carolina. She finished that journey and transitioned peacefully to life everlasting on March 23, 2024 at her home in Bethel, North Carolina. Helen Louise Dixon attended and acquired her education at Bethel Union High School. She was saved at an early age and became a faithful member of Bethel Chapel Church. She was the lead member of their Kitchen Committee organizing and preparing meals for special events for many years. She also became a Church Mother under the auspices of Pastor Jesse Wright. She worked for the North Carolina State School Systems in Pitt County for Bethel Union High School from 1967 until the schools integrated in 1971. She continued working at North Pitt High School until her retirement in 1996. She was a dedicated employee serving thousands of teachers, students, and other staff lunches over the years. Helen was a phenomenal cook. Her family could always find a seat at the table for a great meal on Sundays and every Holiday. Traveling to Family Reunions, she fed every family member for more than 50 years with love and care. She baked every kind of cake imaginable ensuring that each family member had exactly what they liked. She could grill any kind of meat and made her own special sauce. There was always food to take back home for the city folks. A freezer filled with all kinds of vegetables and meats and her favorite “Chittlins”. Helen loved gardening and taking care of tropical plants in her home. She would grow vegetables including collards, squash, okra, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, green onions, and the list goes on. Now in the flower bed, there were native plants, blooming bulbs, and lots of color from oriental lilies, cosmos, rubedekia, marigolds and plants she could never name so they were just flowers. Helen Louise Dixon was preceded in death by her two daughters, Ellen Danette Dixon and Joyce Ann Starks; eight brothers, George Robert Dixon (Hattie), Elder Alexander Lee McKinley Dixon (Lizzie Ella), James Curtis Dixon (Addie Jean), William Earl Dixon, Elder Ernest Dixon, Joe Lee Dixon, Abriam Dixon, Larry Donnell Dixon; one sister, Anna Mae (Gilbert) Jenkins; one son-in-law, Herbert Spruill, Jr. Helen leaves to cherish her loving memory, Three Daughters, Shelby Jean Suggs of Greenville, NC, Bonnie Dixon Spruill of Bethel, NC, Geraldine Dixon-Brown (Ronnie) of Bethel, NC; One Son, Minister Jerry Earl Dixon of Scotland Neck, NC; Fourteen Grandchildren, Thirty-Nine Great Grandchildren, Fifteen Great Great Grandchildren; Two Sisters; Marjorie Dixon-Louden of District Heights, MD, Deborah D. Dixon of Washington, DC; Two Brothers, Milton R. Dixon of District Heights, MD, Marvin Dixon of Washington, DC; Son-In-Law, James Starks of Forestville, MD; Sisters-In-Law, Lena Mae Dixon of Bethel, NC, Tangie Dixon of Rehoboth Beach, DE, Joan Dixon of Baltimore, MD, Marie Dixon of Capital Height, MD; a host of nieces and nephews to the third generation.
