Evon Johnson was born April 3rd, 1956 in Pitt County, NC. She is the daughter of the late Rev. Robert Johnson, Sr. & Selma C. Johnson. She transitioned from labor to reward on December 17th, 2022. She worked throughout Pitt County and the Pitt County School system until her change in health. Evon attended and graduated from North Pitt High School. She later furthered her education at Pitt Community College. Evon was a dedicated member to St. John Missionary Baptist church Soul Saving Center, under the leadership of Pastor Gregory V. and First Lady Patricia Black. She was a member of multiple choirs, and also a praise and worship leader. She took much delight in serving with her church family. Her true passion was exemplified in her singing. She was a dynamic tenor singer that LOVED the Lord and also loved to share her anointed gift with the people she encountered on her life’s journey. She began singing on stage at the age of six. Evon was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Robert Johnson, Sr. and Selma Chancey Johnson, two sisters, Dollie Johnson and Betty Johnson, one son, Derrick Johnson Sr., godfather/ uncle, Julius Clark, and a host of other relatives. Evon leaves to cherish her memories her three children; two daughters, Pam Johnson and Meka Andrews, Greenville, NC; one son, Marquis Andrews, Greenville, NC; four brothers, Robert Johnson, Ivery (Brenda) Johnson Sr., Billy (Joanne) Johnson Sr., Greenville, NC, Jimmy Person, White Plains, MD; two sisters, Vonnie Fleming, Baltimore MD, Darnell Barrett, Greenville NC; godmother/aunt, Shirley Clark; one god-sister, Jacqueline (Lester) Mitchell, Greenville, NC; one grandson, Derrick Johnson Jr., Farmille, NC; two great-grandsons, Kyson Johnson, Kinston, NC, and Cameron Tyson, Farmville, NC; two godchildren, Dominique (Tamara) Edwards and April Sutton, both of Greenville, NC; one nephew of the home Dequan Johnson; honorable coparents Connie (Ramona) Shelley, Kinston, NC and Walter (Yvette) Andrews, Greenville, NC; a devoted cousin, Ira Bunn; and a host of other relatives, and friends. Evon was a loving and mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, and friend amongst other loving qualities. She will truly be missed by those who had the opportunity of knowing her. Her loving and kind personality will live on through those that experienced her anointed singing and remarkable life.
