Mr. Earnest Porter

Earnest Steven Porter (Ballie) was born August 31, 1960, to the late Isabella Hyman passed away on June 2, 2023, at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, NC at the age of 62. Born and raised in Martin County, he attended Martin County Schools. Ballie moved to Boston, Massachusetts as a young adult where he lived and worked for many years before returning to Martin County. Earnest loved to work and was a hard worker. Some of his previous places of employment consist of Waste Management, Lewis Tree Service, Williamston Yarn Mill, and his last place of employment before his death was IDX NC as a Mill Operator for the past three years. He was a very dedicated employee, consistent and would help anyone on the job that needed help. He would often put his work before his health. Earnest was a very fun person to be around always cracking jokes and giving loved one’s different nicknames. Earnest had a distinguished laugh and would always rub his bald head and say “hot tow mighty, hot tow mighty” that’s when you knew it was funny to him. He was the type who would speak his mind no matter if you liked it or not. He was known as the jack of all trades who could fix and put together just about anything. He would often call you and keep you on the phone talking for hours and get mad when you told him you got to go because you were tired of talking. But he made sure to always end the call with I Love You after he fussed you out for wanting to hang up the phone. Earnest leaves to cherish his one and only son, Damien Spain (Dayanis) of Boston, MA; eight sisters, Mary P Williams, Patricia Jerkins (Warren) both of Oak City, NC, Deborah Jean Hyman of West Haven CT, Jeanette Hyman Watson (David) of Attlevoro, MA, Shelia Bailey (Mike) of Nashville, NC; Tonya Hyman Valdez (Louie) of Wilson, NC, Miriam Hyman of Greenville, NC, Terry Hyman of Boston, MA; one brother, Julius Hyman of Greenville, NC; one great, aunt Lula Mae Stancil of Robersonville, NC; one aunt, Bernice Garnett (Carl) of Greenville, NC; two uncles, Robert Porter (Letha) of Robersonville, NC, Arthaniel Porter of Greenville, NC; two grandsons, Tyrese and Terrence Spain both of Boston, MA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
