Tributes

On June 2, 1958, Hallis and Katie Bell Peele welcomed a young man that was full of life and laughter. Douglas Franklin Peele made his entrance into the world that placed smiles on everyone’s face and laughter in their hearts. Affectionally known to all as Doug, he ensured that once he entered the room his presence would be missed when he left, and people would anticipate his return. Although we waited earnestly for his return, Doug humbly submitted to the will of God and entered in eternal rest on Thursday, January 25, 2024. We accepted the will of the Lord and understood that to be absent from the body is to present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8). Doug was educated through the Martin County school system and later graduated from Robersonville High School. Williamston was too small to hold Doug down. Immediately after graduation, Doug found his new home in Virginia where he built a new life and later was employed with Precon Construction Company for many years. Doug worked a variety of other jobs until his health failed. He was always finding something to do to stay busy. If you ever went looking for Doug, you could always find him at a table eating, around a grill eating, walking around eating, or standing over a stove eating. His favorite pass time was eating whatever was cooked. So, if you are wondering what Doug liked to do, it was eating. If he wasn’t eating, he was fishing, shooting pool or watching his favorite football team, Philadelphia Eagles. Family gatherings will never be the same because Doug would ensure that everyone got picked on, laughed at or teased. His humor and smile will be seared in our hearts and minds forever. Doug is preceded in death by his mother and father; Hallis Peele and Katie Bell Little; two sisters, Mary Corey, and Barbara Matthewson; two brothers, Mitchell Peele and Hallis Peele Jr. Doug’s memory will live on through his daughters: Angelica Peele and Jamecia Peele; three brothers, Leo Peele, Bishop Steve Peele, Dwight Peele (Ernestine); six sisters, Annie Spivey, Katie Manning, Paulette Myrick, Janie Knight, Jeannette Spruill, and Bertie Brown; four grandchildren, Jy’Lunden Jones, Camryn Jones, Kyden Jones, Milaun Jones, an enduring girlfriend, Monisha Taylor; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
