Tributes

I have fought a good fight; I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness. (II Timothy 4:7-8) Precious in the sight of God! Early Wednesday morning, at approximately 2:00 AM, on March 5, 2026, God sent an angel to The Service League of Greenville Hospice House and called Sister Dorothy Lee Hyman to eternal rest. Dorothy was born on October 10, 1931 and was the daughter of the late Willie and Lela Hyman. She received her formal education in the Pitt County School System. Being reared in a Christian home by dedicated parents, Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age. She joined St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church in the 1980s under the leadership of Reverend F.R. Peterson. Dorothy looked forward to attending church each Sunday. She attended service faithfully as it was often the highlight of her week. Not only did she enjoy the fellowship with her church family, Dorothy took great pride in choosing her signature church hat for the week. Sister Hyman dedicated many years to farm work, laboring on several farms in her community. She then transitioned into the home health care field until she retired. Dorothy had many hobbies. She enjoyed listening to gospel music, cooking, reading the Bible, crocheting, completing word searches but her absolute favorite hobby was talking to her many friends and family on the phone. She was blessed with an amazing memory and could vividly tell you about people and events from many years ago. Most of all, Dorothy cherished the time she spent with her great grandchildren. It truly brought her a great deal of joy. Sister Hyman was preceded in death by her daughter Mrs. Delois Chance, son Mr. Milton Hyman, sisters, Mrs. Lula Mae Stancil, Ms. Erma Hyman, Mrs. Daisy Mayo, and brothers Mr. Willie Hyman and Mr. Ruben Hyman. Left to cherish her precious memories are her daughter, Mrs. Shirley (Larry) Clemons of Greenville, NC; son, Mr. Eric Charles Hyman of Stokes, NC; grandchildren, Ms. Nikki Harris of New Haven, CT, Mr. Alexis Chance of Greenville, NC, Mr. Corey (Aprilynn) Clemons of Greenville, NC, Ms. Katina Chance of Whitsett, NC, Mr. Marcus (Shakiyla) Clemons of Crowley, TX, Mr. Michael Clemons of Greenville, NC, and Mr. Enrique Hyman of Greenville, NC; ten great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Louise (Pete) Council of Danbury, CT; two daughters-in-law, Ms. Minnie Crandell, Mrs. Sharlenare Staton; one son-in-law, Mr. Larry Chance; one goddaughter, Mrs. Sarah Andrews, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
