Tributes

Doris affectionately called (Dottie) was born September 19, 1937 in Martin County to the late George Brown and Lela Mae Brown of Robersonville NC. Doris peacefully entered rest on September 9, 2023, at 9:45 AM at ECU Medical Center. Doris attended schools in Brooklyn, New York where she pursued a nursing career. Doris was an RN at Dr. Dailey’s office in Williamston, NC and Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, NC until retirement. Doris gave her life to God at an early age; she loved the Lord and had a passionate desire to serve God. She was a member at Holy Mission Lloyds Chapel Church COGIC. She was the President of Hospitality for many years at Lloyds Chapel COGIC in Robersonville, NC. Doris later became a member at Truth Temple COGIC in Greenville, NC. She inherited the nickname “DEE” after becoming Owner and Operator of her business “Dee’s Arrangements.” Doris had many talents, a Wedding Coordinator, Florist, Consultant, Designer, Decorator, Home Interior Agent, Retailer for Prom Dresses and Tuxedos, and Handmade Funeral Arrangements and Casket Sprays for the public. Doris loved flowers and she gave them a name. Doris enjoyed cooking for her children and grandchildren, some of her favorite dishes were spaghetti with meatballs and lasagna. Doris had a passionate love for butterflies. Butterflies symbolize her to the fullest. “Butterflies represent Hope, Faith, Rebirth, Transformation and Spiritual Growth.” Doris was a warrior; she had three hardheaded boys and a stepson. She always had an encouraging word to tell you. We will always miss you, but will not forget you, your memories will remain with us. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, John Land; mother, Lela Mae Brown; father, George Edward Brown; one grandson, Jonathan Gause; two daughters in-law, Annie Pearl Land, and Jeanette Land; a loving sister in-law, Rebecca Brown. Doris leaves to cherish her memories, three sons which she loved dearly Lerick Land of Robersonville, NC, Elliott Land (Doris) of Greenville, NC, Darryl Land (Mary) of Greenville, NC; one stepson, Craige Gause of Conway, SC; one brother, George Brown Jr (Tina), of Brooklyn, NY; a loving niece, Sharon Brown of Brooklyn, NY; twelve grandchildren, Poncho, Sheltony , Shell, Dorsette, Tee, Don, Kyle, Jessica, Keye, Andre, Quanza, and Tika; twenty-four, great-grands and three great- great grands; one sister-in-law, Hattie Dixon; one brother-in-law, Joseph Land (Rose); special God-daughters, Dr. Sarah Hardy (George) of Wilson, NC and Dr. Gladys Ellis (Randy) of Rocky Mount, NC; God-children, Alice Cotton of Williamston, NC, Darian Goss of Ayden, NC and Glenda Goss of Rocky Mount, NC; a special Aunt Janie Burns of Greenville, NC, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
