Tributes

Beulah Council Peppers, daughter of the late Johnnie and Addie Council, began her journey of love and service in the township of Hamilton, N.C. on March 2, 1932. She peacefully went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, April 19, 2023. Beulah graduated from W. C. Chance High School in Parmelee, NC in 1950. She continued her education at North Carolina Central University in Durham, N.C., graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Commercial Education. Shortly after graduating from college, she accepted a Business Education teaching position at West Martin High School in Oak City, N. C. Not fully satisfied, she returned to North Carolina Central several summers to acquire her Masters and credits toward a PhD. Beulah retired in 1990 from Roanoke High School in Robersonville, N.C. Beulah joined Weeping Mary Baptist Church in Hassell, N. C. in her early childhood. She later became a member at Mt. Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church. When the church divided into two separate entities, she remained at Mt. Gethsemane. Beulah served on the Usher’s Board for fifty-one years. Beulah’s greatest joys in life were here Church, her Family, and her Flower Garden. Beulah believed in helping others. Over the years, she participated in many organizations: NEA, NCRSP, NC Central Golden Eagles, Martin County Council of Women, Hamilton’s Planning Committee, the Council Family Reunion Committee, Martin County/Bertie County Library Association, Martin County’s Precinct Official Judge, Martin County Food Pantry, Treasurer of the W.C. Chance Class of 1950, Hamilton’s Beautification Committee, and a Member of the West Martin Fundraising Committee. Beulah was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eddie Peppers; her sisters, Lizzie Council Williams, Bertha Council Briley; her mother, Addie Council and her father, Johnnie Council. Cherishing her memory are three sisters, Eva Butler of Brooklyn, N.Y., Michelle Wilson (Ben) of Robersonville, N.C. and Nickie Keel of Williamston, N.C.; three brothers, Johnnie Lee Council of Hamilton, N.C., Milton Howell of Brooklyn, N. Y. and Timothy Purvis (Angela) of Hassell, N.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews (two of whom she helped raise), other relatives and friends. God saw her getting tired.
