Alice Virginia Shaw was born August 10, 1940 to the late Wright Shaw and Evelyn “Virginia” Shaw in Pitt County, North Carolina. She shed her garments of flesh on Saturday July 15, 2017 at 5:15 am at the Hospice House in Greenville, NC after eight years of Alzheimer’s. She departed this life just as she lived it…peacefully and gracefully. As many did years ago, Alice made the exodus from Greenville to Jersey City, NJ in search of a better life. She was content residing in New Jersey until her first grandchild was born. Three months after the birth of her granddaughter, she packed up her things and relocated to Augusta, Georgia. While in Augusta, she accepted Christ during a bible study at Pastor and Mother Walden’s house on Halloween night approximately 25 years ago. Alice (affectionately referred to as “Mother Shaw”) served faithfully as an usher and on the Mother’s Board at Old Time Way Church of God in Christ. She remained in Georgia until April of this year when her daughter and she came back home to Greenville to be closer to family. Though, Alice suffered with Alzheimer for 8 years, she always remembered to say, “thank you,” for every act of kindness until she stopped speaking entirely just a few days before she transitioned to glory. She was kind-hearted, never met a stranger, and loved her family and her church family…until she was welcomed “HOME,” by the angels of God. Alice was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Willie Shaw; two sisters Josephine Norman and Peggy Jones. Alice leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Lillian Isreal of the home; two grandchildren, Curtisha Lawrence (Jonathan) of Griffin, GA, Curtis Walker of Augusta, GA; one great-grandson, Amos Walker (Augusta); three brothers, Joe Shaw (Diane), Lindsay “Tig” Wilkes, Sterling McCoy (Teresa) all of Jersey City, NJ; five sisters Eveline Parmalee (Marshall) of the home, Hattie Green (William) of Greenville, NC, JoAnne Phillips (Curtis) and Bernadine Beard of Jersey City, NJ, Vernice Washington of Maplewood, NJ, Gail McCoy of Los Angeles, CA.; one cousin raised as a brother, Bobby Wilson (Vernita) of Roselle, NJ.; two godchildren, George Walden (Cynthia), Brenda Ward of Augusta, GA; a host of nieces, nephews,friends, cousins, and church family.
