Nathan William Hooker, Jr. was born on January 22, 1927 in Blounts Creek, NC to the late Nathan William Hooker, Sr. and late Laura Jane Moore Hooker. On Tuesday, August 14, 2018, an angel of silence came to Vidant-Beaufort and picked up Nathan Hooker, Jr. He entered a quiet and peaceful eternal rest.Nathan became a faithful member of Ware Creek Missionary Baptist Church of Blounts Creek in September 1981 and served until his health failed. He served as an usher and trustee. He was also a member of Ware Creek Community Center Club.Nathan was a farmer, owned a logging business and once operated a country store in which people came miles to patronize. He also raised hogs and grew a garden large enough for the community.Nathan served in World War II and received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. You would often see him with his Army cap on when going out to the doctor and other places.Nathan loved to travel! During the summer, he would travel with his daughters and sons in-law to Florida, Maryland, Ohio and California. He would also go on the class trips with his grandchildren. Nathan’s passion was reading and he loved to read the encyclopedia. He would do the word scramble in the newspaper each day and work in his puzzle books.Nathan is preceded in death by, his siblings, Royal Hooker, Cleophia S. Moore, Matilda H. Moore, Carrie H. Hill, Calvin C. Hooker, Christine Hooker, Nettie McCullough and John H. Hooker. To cherish his beautiful memories and sorrow in his passing he leaves, his daughters, Ella Dudley (Jesse), Prophetess Debra Cogdell (Pastor Douglas), Veronica “Anita” Richburg (Minister Carl, Sr.); sons, Kelvin Clark, Irvin Chapman ( Lenette), Dion Mourning(Erica); a sister, Hattie H. Roberson of New Bern, NC; grandchildren, Patrick Coffey, Kelvin Coffey, Tiffany Cogdell, Candice Cogdell, Carl Richburg, Jr., Wade Moore, Darius Chapman, Lydia Chapman, Tiara Farley, Melvin Keys, Kyajia Mourning, Xavien Mourning, Josiah Ponds, Jonathan Sturdivant; a special god-son, Hi’Shakim Simmons; a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a special friend, William Goldie Smith.
