Mr. Melvin Collins Jr Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Deacon Melvin Earl Collins, Jr was born on May 31st, 1973 to the late Josephine Copeland and Melvin Collins, Sr in Hartford, Connecticut. He entered into eternal glory on June 11, 2022 surrounded by his family. Melvin affectionately known as "Big Mel" and "Junior" moved to Washington, NC with his family as an infant and received his formal education in the Beaufort County School System. He graduated from Washington High School in 1991. Melvin married the love of his life of 22 years, Contessa Everett Collins and to this Union three children were born. Melvin was proud and loved his family. He also loved music, singing and fishing. Melvin's favorite football team was the Dallas cowboys and he wasn't scared to let anyone know it. Melvin was a very hard worker; he was employed at Hamilton Beach until they closed in 1999 and began to work at DENSO manufacturing (formerly ASMO) for over 22 years until his health decline. Melvin and his family join Cathedral of Fresh Fire; now known as Best Cathedral of Fresh Fire May 2009 and he was ordained as a Deacon on Sunday November 21, 2010. Melvin was a part of the Praise Team, Choir, Men's choir, Men's fellowship, and on the Deacon's Board. Melvin believed in being a faithful member and he loved being at the church. Melvin and his family moved their membership to Word of Life Church Ministries in Greenville, NC in April 2021 under the leadership of Pastor Bejeanus Best. Melvin loved the Lord, and his faith never wavered no matter what was thrown his way. Melvin was preceded in death by his mother, Josephine Copeland; his father-in-law Paul Gates; his grandparents, Joseph Copeland, Hattie and Fred Keyes, Curtis and Esther Collins, Daniel and Hazel Everett; 1 niece, Shantel Pope; 5 aunts and 2 uncles. Melvin leaves his cherished memories with, his wife Contessa Collins; his children, Keveon Everett, Minister Vontasia Collins (Elder Quayvon Ebron - boyfriend), Kevonte Collins; 3 Godchildren, Shamari Parker, Kamille Morning and Kyra Morning; his father, Melvin Collins, Sr (Carolyn); mother-in- law, Everlyn Everett; 2 sisters, Minister Juanita Copeland and Keisha Lawrence; 1 brother, Marvin Collins, Sr; 1 sister-in-law, Direatha Rodgers; 1 God-sister, Missionary Kindra Warren (Tylon); a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
