Mr. Marty Ward Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mr. Marty Ward transitioned from this life early Saturday morning, May 29, 2021 at Vidant Medical Center Greenville, NC. Marty, also known as “Marty Maul” was born on February 20, 1962 to the late Joe Dallas Ward Sr. and Letha Andrews Ward. He was the baby boy of the family. Marty was a graduate of North Pitt High School c/o 1980. After graduating from High School, Marty served in the U.S. Armed Forced for 4 yrs. He later attended Pitt Community College while serving in the National Guard. Marty was assigned to Germany, Japan and the Philippines as part of his tour of duty. Marty lived in El Paso, Texas, Daytona, Florida and Savannah, Georgia throughout his time in the Guard. Marty later enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 2000 and was stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force based located in Goldsboro, NC. He was deployed to Saudi Arabia project Dessert Storm, after the 9/11 attack. Marty retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant in 2005. After his retirement, Marty worked as a Correctional Officer at the Franklin Correctional Center in Bunn, NC. He later transferred to work at the Neuse Correctional Institute in Wayne County until the failing of his health. Marty was a huge sports fan. His favorite teams were the North Carolina Tarheels and the Pittsburg Steelers. Marty enjoyed playing community basketball and baseball as a child. He loved watching game shows, especially Jeopardy. Marty was preceded in death by both his parents; brother, Larry Ward and sisters, Hester Rae Ward and Leatha Louise Ward and brother, Wilbert Andrews. Marty leaves to mourn three daughters, Marquita Maureen Cherry of Tarboro, NC, Marquetta A. Ward and Marquell Lindsay Kenya Ward both of Savannah, Georgia; two sons, Marquee J. Ward of Savannah, Georgia, Lamar Tyree Ward of El Paso, Texas; God-daughter, Patrish Cherry Pinetops, NC.; six grandchildren; one brother, Joe Dallas Ward Jr. of Greenville, NC; five sisters, Lola Ward Kornegay, Barbara A. Ward, Glenda Donnell Ward Hardison, Angeline Ward Martin (William Harvey) , Charlene Ward all of Greenville, NC; one Aunt, Mary Andrews of Robersonville, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; he also leave to mourn a long- time friend/brother James Salisbury of Savannah, Georgia.
