Mrs. Lee Arneta Greene

On October 30, 2022 about the hour of 8:40 AM, God in His infinite wisdom dispatched an angel to the ECU Health Beaufort Hospital in Washington, NC to gently close the eyes of our dearly beloved Lee Arneta O’Neal Greene, daughter of the late Bedie Sadler O’Neal and Tilmon O’Neal. Lee Arneta “Boo” was born September 24, 1929 in Swan Quarter, NC. She attended the Hyde County Training School in Scranton, NC where she graduated on May 7, 1949. She later served as a substitute teacher and cafeteria worker with the Hyde County School System where she retired in 1991. On March 10, 1951, she was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Richard Greene, who preceded her in death on April 27, 1999. To this union three children were born – George Nathaniel Greene, Marva Theresa Greene and Marilyn Greene. Those forty-eight years of love, devotion, and happiness were treasures blessed by God. Her Christian service began at an early age when she became a member of Old Richmond Baptist Church. It was there that she acknowledged Jesus Christ and was baptized. She served on the church Usher Board and later with the Hyde County Baptist Association Usher Board. In her leisure time, she enjoyed spending time on the phone with her “phone buddies”, doing “Search Word” puzzles and watching TV. However, spending time and talking on the phone with her grandchildren is what brought her joy. They were her purpose for living. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Greene; her son, George Nathaniel Greene. Beyond blessed to have called her “Mama” are her daughter and son-in-law, Marva Theresa and Donnie Blount of Swan Quarter, NC, daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Jeffrey Cunningham of Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren, Takeya and husband Kendrick Bell of Monroe, NC; Yanika and husband Timothy Cokley of Charlotte, NC and JaQuay Cunningham of Charlotte, NC; two great-grandchildren, Khedric Bell and Khendon Bell of Monroe, NC; a daughter-in-kind, Bettie Lucas Johnson of Temple Hills, MD; and a son-in-kind, Terry Minor of Wake Forest, NC; she is survived by her brothers, William Price, Tilmon O’Neal (Sudie), Jim O’Neal (Darlene), Charlie O’Neal (Ida), Alfred O’Neal (Pam) and Clement O’Neal all of Swan Quarter, NC; and her sisters Brenda O’Neal and Jennie O’Neal of Swan Quarter, NC; as well as her phone buddies, Dorothy Sanders, Herma Whitaker, Lillie Mae Gibbs, Mother Penny Cox, Mother Bessie Murray; a multitude of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends and a devoted friend, Willie E. Green.
