October 17, 1955 - February 20, 2021
Each of us are born into this world with a mission… So it was for Mr. Larry Rogers. Born to his mission on October 17, 1955, Larry was the melting pot for family, the blender of souls, and the embodiment of all things Kingdom. To say Larry was the salt of the earth is such an understatement. Using his artistic abilities, Larry completely embodied the words of scripture recorded in Matthew, chapter 5. “You are the salt of the earth… you are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” An artist, photographer and poet, Larry lent his God given talent to the world around him. Many days and years saw Larry behind the lens chronologizing family gatherings, memorializing weddings, deaths, and neighborhood functions. His artwork for the church will not soon be forgotten. Few were privy to the many thoughtful poems penned by Larry, but his paintings will always be an expression of his soul. Larry served in the United States Army from November 7, 1973 to May 6, 1981. After the military, Larry began civilian service as a police officer with the Department of Defense (Naval District of Washington DC), retiring September 2014. Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Selma Rogers; father, Robert “Big Bobby” Jones; his daughter, baby LaDonna; two brothers, Sylvester Beach and Edward Rogers; sister, Laurita Patten. Larry leaves to cherish his memories, his sister, Rether White; his brother, William Rogers along with a host of family and friends. Larry will be missed but we are assured we will meet him again in heaven. On February 20, 2021 Corporal Larry Rogers departed this world MISSION COMPLETED.
