On Wednesday, July 29, 2020, at approximately 2:20p.m., our Heavenly Father sent his angel to pluck one of his flowers from his earthly garden. Jesse Ray Hardy, Sr. (Hawkeye) was born on March 26, 1957 to the late James and Bertha Hardy. He attended Pitt County Schools graduating from North Pitt High School in 1975. He also attended Chowan College in Murfreesboro, NC where he majored in graphic arts. He then used his skills as a graphic artist at Smith Printing and later at Morgan Printers, Inc. for many years. Jesse took extreme pride in his craft as he was often sought after for his graphic arts talents. He grew up in the St. Peter community and was baptized at St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. He later became a faithful member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Falkland, NC, where he served as a trustee and an usher. Jesse was our very own dog whisperer. He had a special love for all animals, especially dogs and cats. He had a particular affinity for stray animals as he recently took in and cared for a beautiful cat that he called Greystone. He also had a green thumb and loved gardening and landscaping. He leaves to cherish his memory three children, TraTina D. Jenkins, LaTressa Stith (William), Jesse Hardy, Jr.; one grandson, RaeKwon Jenkins. Jesse enjoyed spending time with his siblings. He and his siblings relished their close relationship and the support they gave to each other, James Hardy, Jr. (Stephanie), Carlton B. Hardy (Florida), Helen Hardy Knight (William), Faye Hardy Bordeaux (Frankie), Milton Hardy (Deborah), Pauline Hardy-Evans (Johnny), and Virginia D. Hardy; also, left to cherish his memories - a special loving, and supportive brother, James Larry Gorham; in addition, he is survived by 19 nieces and nephews who love and will miss him very much along with a host of relatives and friends. The family of Jesse Hardy, Sr. wishes to thank the entire Vidant Medical Center Oncology Department and the ECU Brody School of Medicine for the excellent treatment and warm care given to Jesse with - special appreciation to Dr. Vijay Chaudhary. A viewing will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2020, 1:00 - 2:00 pm at St. John Missionary Baptist Church. Following the viewing, a private funeral service will be held for the family and invited guests. Family and friends can watch the service which will be streamed live at www.stjohnmbcf.org. and Congleton Funeral Home and Cremations Facebook Page.
