Isreal “Jay” Jenkins was born on October 4, 1934 to Isreal and Nellie Killiewbrew Jenkins. He departed this life on December 5, 2020. “Jay” as he was affectionally called grew up in the Robersonville community and was educated in the Martin County School System. The outdoor life was his passion, fishing, gardening, and yard work. Many days, if you were passing by, you would see Jay on his riding lawnmower. He loved gospel music and would spend hours sitting in his white truck listening to music. “Jay” became a member of Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church in 1993, where he served on the Usher Board. On November 3, 2018, because of his leadership and dedication to the community and family, Jay was given Honorary Deacon of the Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church. Isreal Jenkins was presented with “Man of the Year” Certificate of Recognition on October 11, 2020 by Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church. He loved to fellowship with his pastor and church family. “Jay” was preceded in death by his parents, Isreal and Nellie Jenkins; sisters, Nellie Jenkins, Magelene Dickins, Carolyn A. Walker; brothers, Roosevelt Jenkins, Jessie Jenkins; great-grand, Jakeen. “Jay” leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Mary L. Jenkins; sons, Isreal Jenkins, Jr., Nathaniel Jenkins (Francine); daughters, YaShica Monique Walton, Terri Horner, Yvette Russell; grandchildren, Natalie Jenkins, Dekiece Walton, Jailin Russell, JaBrie Woods and Rhakym Horner Barnes; great-grands, Amyah, Rihanna, Curtis, Carl, Conner; one great-great grand, Wrighley; brothers, Henry Jenkins (Frances) of Charlotte, NC, Charles Jenkins of Queens, NY; sisters, Doris Blunt of New Bern, NC, Gladys Campbell of Fort Worth, TX; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and extended family. Isreal “Jay” Jenkins leaves a legacy of love, good memories and will be greatly missed.
