Mr. Billy Walls

Billy R. Walls was born in McColl, South Carolina. He graduated from McColl High School. He was a devoted husband and father. His life was full of professional baseball, basketball games, and a zest for cars. In high school he played football, basketball, and he played the trombone. His first car and last car were his favorite … a mustang. After graduating from McColl High School in McColl, South Carolina he attended Marlboro Technical Institute, Marlboro, South Carolina and earned a degree in Machine Technology. He worked at Marlboro Vocational School where he taught machine shop. He later moved to Greenville, North Carolina and began a career in Human Resources with Yale Materials Handling Company, Greenville, North Carolina. While working long hours at Yale he decided to return to his career as an educator with Pitt County Schools. He attended East Carolina University, Greenville, NC. After graduating from East Carolina he was employed by Pitt County Schools as an educator. He was instrumental in the start up of the Pitt County School Transition Center where he worked with troubled youth. Billy retired from Pitt County Schools. Billy served as an usher with his daughter Billie and his best friend Byron Tyson, but did not want anyone to look at him. Therefore, he stopped ushering. He was an active member of Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church. He was a dedicated member of the Pitt County NAACP as Vice Chair Of Pitt County Legal Redress Committee. He was passionate about helping others. Billy was preceded in death by the love of his life, his mother, Mrs. Julia Margaret Morrison Walls. Billy leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Mrs. Charetta Reid Walls, Greenville, North Carolina, two daughters Billie N. Walls of Raleigh, NC, Rhonda Faye Covington of California; his father, Mr. Leroy Walls of Bennettsville, South Carolina, his mother-in-law, Mrs. Lillie M. Reid of Greenville, North Carolina, sisters, Belinda Walls Dixon (Earl) of Bennettsville, South Carolina; brother, Alex Lee Walls (Carolyn) of Laurinburg, NC, Geraldine Walls Primus (Joe) of High Point, NC, Beverly Faye Walls Evans of Greenville, NC, Leroy Sumpter of Bennettsville, South Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
