Mrs. Barbara Peele Matthewson entered this world on April 22, 1957 in Martin County to the late Hallis Peele Sr. and Katie Bell Little. Barbara attended the public school system in Robersonville NC, graduating from Roanoke High School. She later attended Martin Community College graduating with an Associate Degree in Office System Technology. Barbara was a member of Smithwick Chapel Church of Christ Disciple of Christ where she served faithfully as a secretary on the usher board until her health began to fail. Barbara was a diehard Cowboys fan, she was the life of the party. With a contagious smile and a loud mouth she would make her presence known by one single word: "BAM" or calling someone a "little girl". One of her most prized possession was her camera. She was known as the paparazzi queen. Anywhere she was she would take your picture. Her most favorite motto is: “ I can do all things through Christ that strengthen me.” She would be greatly missed but her legacy will live on. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Hallis Peele Sr., Katie B. Little; one brother, Hallis Peele Jr. Barbara is survived by her husband, Willie A. Matthewson, Jr. ; two children, Shermeka Boone (Shawn) of Atlanta, Ga, Willie A. Matthewson III (Danielle) of Newport News, VA; two grandchildren, La’Kendall Matthewson of Newport News, VA, Diamond Spruill of Atlanta, GA; two God-children, Kendrick Harrell of Robersonville, NC, Lesean Manning of Raleigh, NC; twelve siblings, Mary Corey, Katie Manning, Leo Peele (Ivanetta), Bishop Steve Peele, Dwight Peele(Ernestine), Paulette Myrick, Janie Knight, Annie Spivey (Keith), Jeanette Spruill, Sandra Swain all of Williamston, NC, Mitchell Peele, Douglas Peele all of Portsmouth, VA; in addition, Bertie Brown of Williamston, NC, Hilton Peele, James Peele both of Philadelphia, PA, Doris Whitehead of Williamston, NC, Vera Dabb of Maryland; two sisters- in-law, Julia Hunter (Julius) of Greenville, NC, Shelia M. Warren of Goldsboro, NC; three brothers-in-law, William Matthewson (JoAnn) of Hope Mills, NC, Ronnie Matthewson (Denise) of Parmele, NC, Michael Matthewson (Tanya) of Fayetteville, NC; two very special friends, Sallie Alston of Hamilton, NC, Rena Rodgers of Williamston, NC; sister-in-law, Tanya Matthewson, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends that she cherished deeply.
