April 18, 1935 - January 1, 2021
“Sunset and evening star, And one clear call for me And may there be no moaning of the bar, When I put out to sea, For though from out our borne of Time and Place The flood may bear me far, I hope to see my Pilot face to face When I have crossed the bar” Mr. Asa Rodgers was the son of the late Boley and Nancy Rodgers. His sunrise began on April 18, 1935. God called him to His eternal home January 1, 2021. Asa attended Martin County Public Schools and graduated from EJ Hayes High School in Williamston, NC. He also graduated from Harris Barber College. Later in life, Asa moved to New York City where he owned and operated a mechanic business. Upon moving back to North Carolina, he operated Rodgers Repair Shop, a 24 Hour Mechanic Service. There was no job that was too large or too small for him. Asa loved his wife and family. He had a special love for his grandchildren. If you “messed with them, Asa got it straight.” He was a kind gentleman who was a straight talker. A person never had to wonder what was on his mind. He had a kind heart and he will be missed by all who knew him and loved him. Asa was preceded in death by one daughter, Marion Porter. Mr. Asa Rodgers leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife, Betty Rodgers of the home; three children, Craig Anderson of Chicago, Illinois, Elaine Parchment of New York, and Asaer Wilkins of Washington, NC; a loving granddaughter, Lekeisha Taylor of Greenville, NC; grandchildren, Arthutius, Asanta Vivlica, Apprentice, Tyler, and Amari; great granddaughters, Aaliyah and Kaidence; one son-in-law, James Porter; two sisters, Della Spell and Anna Little of Washington, NC; two loving nieces, Lola Cobb and Tawanda Spell and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
