Ms. Annie Grimes Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

For a mother, sister, grandmother, friend Annie Lee Grimes was called home to eternal life on May 22, 2022. She was born on June 11, 1942 to the union of Mary Belle Tyre and Arthur Larkins in Aurora, NC. She lived and worked most of her life in the Aurora area, matriculating at Snowden Elementary School and retiring from National Spinning Mill. Annie loved children so after retiring went to work at the local daycare where she continued to work for many years. Annie Lee had a keen sense of humor and a strong fortitude. Having given her life to Christ at an early age, Annie Lee was a long-standing member of St. Peter Baptist Church in Royal (Aurora) where she served as an usher. Well known throughout her community, Annie Lee was a friend to those who needed a friend. When her health declined, friends came to her aide, especially her neighbors Nora Cradle, Corine Moore, and Ernestine Wright. Annie Lee often mentioned how grateful she was to them. Annie Lee Grimes was preceded in death by her husband, William John Grimes, her parents Mary Belle Tyre and Arthur Larkins; her sisters and brothers, Marie Peed, Mary Lucille Taylor, Doris Earl “Buddy” Tyre, and William Charles Larkin; her nephews, Billy Peed, William Charles Larkin, Jr., Robert Clyde Taylor, Jr. and Antonio Juan Padilla. Annie leaves to cherish her memory three children, Angela Lavon Hill (Mamie) of Aurora, Patricia Elaine English of the home, and Kerry Vardell Larkins of Shelby, NC; three stepchildren, Doris Grimes, William John Grimes, Jr. and Michael Woody; her baby sister, Lillie Mae Larkins. She will also be dearly missed by her two grandchildren, Tonette Latham and Antron Larkins, whom she helped raise; three great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and former co-workers. “Do not celebrate my life with tears and sadness. I have lived my life to the fullest and fulfilled my earthly purpose. Remember me for my kindness, laughter and joy. I am resting in the arms of God where there is no more pain or sorrow."
