Alfonso D. Billingslea was born on March 9, 1932 to Susie Wolfolk and William H. Billingslea in Duvel County, Jacksonville, Florida. The peaceful transition transpired on Friday, December 11, 2020 at 8:30am. Alfonso aka “Sonnyboy” received his high school diploma from Staton High School in Jacksonville, Florida in 1950. After high school Alfonso went into the US Army and served for six years and obtained an honorable discharge in November 30, 1956. He moved to New York and worked at Saint Michael’s Hospital in Newark, NJ as an orderly. Alfonso later retired from Veteran Hospital in Watchung, New Jersey. Alfonso then moved to Washington, NC and retired again from Tideland Mental Health. Alfonso gave his life to the Lord and served on the Trustee Board and taught Sunday School to the youth at Faith Baptist Church in Plainfield, NJ. He was ordained as a Deacon at Faith and Truth Ministries. Alfonso had a lot of hobbies, such as reading novels, taking pictures (he loved to take pictures) and counseling people with addictions and showing them the way to the Lord. Alfonso had an impact on anyone he came in contact with, he loved everyone. Alfonso was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Charlotte Hendrickson; 2nd wife, Della Bonner; 3rd wife, Bernice Garner; one son, Larry Billingslea. Alfonso is survived by seven children, Daphne Teel of Gainesville, FL, Lloyd Billingslea (Teresa) of Piscataway, NJ, Steve Billingslea (Rhonda) of Greenville, NC, Lisa Spann-Hill (Walter) of Farmville, NC, Lynell S. Billingslea of Raleigh, NC, Debra Collins (Toby) of Washington, NC, Tina Marie Grimes Billingslea of Washington, NC; sixteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a set of twins on the way; special nephew, Timothy Bonner; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
