Mr. Alexander “Flukie” Edwards was born on April 5, 1940, in Aurora, NC, to the late Leo and Margaret Edwards, on Thursday, June 16, 2022, Alexander transitioned from this earth to his final rest in glory at Carolina East Medical Center, New Bern, NC. Mr. Alexander “Flukie” Edwards was born and raised in Aurora, N.C. where he received his education through the Beaufort County School System by way of S.W. Snowden. Upon graduating High School Mr. Edwards held various jobs prior to beginning his career as Drag Line Operator with Texas Gulf (now Nutrien) where he dedicated over 34 years of meritorious service prior to retiring. He was a member of Mount Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a faithful member for well over 50 years under the leadership of Pastor Robert Whitaker. Mr. Alexander “Flukie” Edwards was a staple in his local community where he enjoyed fishing as well as hunting with close friends such as Hugh Fonville and others. He never met a stranger. Every person in the world, to him, was just a friend he hadn’t met yet, he believed that each person no matter the race, religion, or creed had at least one thing in common. Mr. Edwards was the true definition of a real man and displayed these characteristics each day through his life living, he was known as the “Dad of West Road”. He was preceded in death by wife, Mattie Olivia Edwards, and two children, Delphine Edwards & Ernest Edwards. He leaves to cherish his memory children, Lorraine Wiggins (James) and son, Anthony Edwards (Brenda) of Aurora, NC; sisters, Maggie Blango, Margaret Bryant (Andrew) and Pearl Minor all of Aurora, NC; brother, Leo Edwards Jr. (Kathy) of Spring Lake, NC; sisters-in law, Bessie Lovette (Lovette) of Louisiana, Alice Cobb of Tennessee, Mary Gardener of Hope Mills, NC; brothers-in law, Alex Jr. (Niecy) and Melvin Roach all of Hope Mills, NC; (6) grandchildren, Detrick, Kendryk (Amber), Keyona, Anthony, Caleb and Jamarr; (9) great-grandchildren, Deivontrick, Attriva, Keyniah, Damian, Kendra, Zayn, Kayden, Kamdan and Jamari; (3) great great-grandchildren, Geo Ruiz, Mariah Ruiz and Isaac Clinton; (5) goddaughters, Ronesshia and Turkesshia Moore, Latoria Willis, Jennifer Cannon, and Ruthie Tyre; close friends, Hugh Fonville, Pop (Sammy) Yates, Perry Gaynor, and Bobby Credle, Johnny Moore, with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
