Mrs. Addie Carter Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mother Addie Birt Carter was born on August 24, 1918 she was one of four children born to Major McDonald Birt and Verstie Moore. She was a fraternal twin to her brother Floyd Birt who preceded her in death. Having been born in 1918 Mother Addie appeared on the 1920 United States Federal Census at the age of one year and four months. At that time the Birt family was living in rural Beaufort County. Mother Addie was a woman of strong faith, full of compassion, wisdom and wore grace on her face, a look of knowing she was blessed, and we were blessed to have her. She was always elegantly dressed and had a collection of fancy hats for every attire. Mother Addie set examples to show us faith and strength in her journey as we celebrate her home going at the age of 103 years old. Mother Addie was blessed in a union for 65 years to the late Deacon Willie Edward Carter and they renewed their vows after 50 years right here at St. Anna MBC. They were blessed with 9 children, Alton Carter (Lena deceased) of Blount Creek, NC, Melvin Carter (Deceased) Katie, Horace Carter, (Virgel) of Chocowinity, NC, Carolyn Carter Moore (Daniel) of Washington, NC, Doris Carter Chapman (Deceased), William Carter (Janice deceased) of Grimesland, NC, Carl Carter (DeVaughn) of New Jersey, Nancy Carter Howard (Mark) of Townsend, DE, Clayton Carter of Blount Creek, NC; 18 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 11 great- greatgrandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Mother Addie had a love and compassion for all her children and family. After her husband deceased, Mother Addie positioned herself to move forward with her family. She regularly spent time praying and continued to develop a Godly relationship seeking to live in harmony with her family, friends and Church family. We remember our mother singing in the choir later she became Mother Deacon and President of the Auxiliary Board, all where she always loves to “say right here at St. Anna MB Church Everybody is Somebody” Mother Addie was the oldest Mother Deacon at St. Anna MBC she was not as active as she used to be but was always ready to give you her wisdom and knowledge. She was active in the community, making sure those who needed a ride to vote had a ride to vote. She was active with the first Girl Scouts in Blount Creek. Her family remember her taking classes for her GED, later after working on the farm with her husband Willie, she was trained as a nurse’s aide at Birthhaven Nursing Home where she retired. Mother Addie was full of wisdom and the sparkle in her eyes was never dulled by her age or her inevitable setbacks. She rose above her setbacks to bring out the best in her children. Mother Addie was everything we aspired a mother to be and had unlimited positive energy and always had time for her family. She gave God the praise and never complained of anything.
