Ms. Zelma Gorham

The Family has requested that in lieu of flowers make your contributions to Triumph Missionary Baptist Church in memory of Lillie Jane and Zelma Gorham Scholarship Fund. “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain.” Revelation 21:4 Zelma Lee Gorham was born on May 21, 1946 in Washington, North Carolina to the late Johnie Sam Gorham and the late Lillie Jane Gorham. Zelma was the tenth of eleven children. Zelma quietly departed this earthly life on July 23, 3017 and entered her eternal life. Zelma received her early education in the Pitt County School System of Greenville. After graduating from high school, she relocated to Lorraine, Ohio to pursue a career in nursing. She graduated from Lorraine County Community College certified as an L.P.N. and was employed for three years in this county. Zelma joined the medical staff at the Lankenau Hospital in Philadelphia, PA and remained a dedicated employee for thirty-nine years until her retirement in June 2011. Zelma was a long time member of the Chi Eta Phi National Nursing Sorority. Zelma accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age and was baptized at the Triumph Missionary Baptist Church of Washington, NC. She reunited with this church family upon returning to care for her late mother. She participated in Bible Study Class at the church and also joined a Women’s Group and Bible Study lead by her cousin Reverend Rosa Sydney. Zelma loved to garden beautiful flowers of every kind. She received several honors and awards from the Philadelphia Horticultural for her outstanding garden presentations throughout the years. Zelma was an avid fan of all types of sports and you would find her glued to the television set when the seasons of football, basketball and tennis were fast approaching. Before returning to Greenville, Zelma took an active part helping her sister Lillie with her Nutrition Ministry at the St. Matthew AME Church. Zelma is preceded in death by three siblings, Arlester, Victor and DeRoy. Zelma leaves to cherish the memories of her life, Debbie Creech; her siblings, Johnnie Gorham (Bernice), Lottie Romaine, Lillie Gorham, Robert Gorham (Yvonne), Martha Bernice Gorham, Robena Gorham; sister-in-law; Joan Gorham; a dedicated cousin, Doris Cox; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, others loving relatives and friends. “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” ll Corinthians 5:1
