To everything, there is a season and a time to every purpose under the Heaven: A time to be born and a time to die; A time to weep and a time to laugh; A time to mourn and a time to dance; A time to love and a time to hate; A time of war and a time of peace. Ecclesiastes 3:1, 2, 4, 8 Mr. William Clyde Lawrence affectionately known as “Speedy and Rabbit”, was born on August 6, 1953, to the late Ernest Lawrence Jr. and Josephine (Teen) Lawrence in Martin County. He departed this life at his home on December 11, 2024. William attended Robersonville High School in Robersonville, NC. He had several jobs, including construction and GFL Waste Management. He was in the Army National Guard for several years. William joined Back Swamp Church in 2018 and was a faithful member until his health failed. Speedy was a very outgoing person who loved to watch his favorite football team, the New England Patriots. He loved to travel. He loved spending time with his family and giving his kids a hard time. Julia and Trinia were kind of his punching bags especially when taking him to doctor’s appointments. We fought constantly with him and would not change it for anything. He loved spending time with the grands and great grand especially when we had get-togethers. One would ask for money and he would say whew it's too many of you all. I am going to be broke when I leave here. His relationship with Gloria was special. They stayed into about everything. He often told Gloria what he was going to do to her and she would laugh and say try it if you want to William. I have something for you. He was a person who enjoyed fellowshipping with people. He will be truly missed by all who knew him. William was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Lawrence, his parents, Ernest and Josephine Lawrence, two sisters, Linda Lawrence and Martha Knight, and a brother, Larry Lawrence: two grandchildren, Carl Lee Jr. and Brianna Ewell, and one son-in-law, Walter Worsley. He leaves to cherish his memories his fiancé, Gloria Lacy of the home; three daughters, Julia Worsley, Lutricia Harrison, and Trinia Cox (Ronnie) all of Greenville, NC; two sons, Don Lawrence (Shanice) and William Lawrence (Shanica) all of Greenville, NC; one step-son, Victor Lacy of Maryland; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Coletta Lawrence of Stamford, Ct, and Maria Howell (Anthony) of Oak City, NC; three brothers, David Lawrence of Bridgeport, Ct, Ernest Lawrence of Kilen, TX and Kenneth Lawrence of Williamston, NC; four aunts, Gertrude Northern and Geraldine Morgan both of Williamston, NC, Mae Ella Raynor of Robersonville and Mae Bell Williams of Charlotte, NC; one uncle, Willie Lawrence of Baltimore, MD; one sister-in-law, Evergene Edwards (Gerald); one brother-in-law, Derkley Harrison (Eva); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
