Wallace Purvis, Jr. was born on March 10, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York at Kings County Hospital to the late Wallace T Purvis and Agnes Roxanna Smith Purvis. He transitioned to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, June 6, 2024, at his home. Wallace joined the (Military) Army at the age of 17, served three years and separated with an Honorable discharge at Fort Hamilton, NY. After moving to New York. He met and married Dorothy Wells Purvis and to this union were born four daughters, Crystal, Jackie, Tracy and Kim. Wallace was a gifted mechanic and at one point worked for the US Postal Service and for a Mercedes Benz Dealership as a mechanic in Danbury, Connecticut. He held various other jobs in New York and Connecticut. Wallace re-located from Connecticut to North Carolina in 2001. Wallace was an active member of Chapter 37 of the Disabled American Veterans. He attended Conventions, at various locations across the country. As an active member, his passion was actively raising funds for the DAV which enabled their children to attend summer camps. He received numerous recognitions and citations for his dedicated service to the missions of the DAV. Wallace was very well known as a recognized “fixture” at The Golden Corral Restaurant where he mainly volunteered his DAV services. He was absolutely one of a kind. “What you saw was what you got”!! Wallace had a passion for fishing which he enjoyed until he left us. He attended annual Turkey Shoots and usually won first place. He was an avid reader and would research anything of interest to him. He enjoyed driving which earned him the nickname of “Speedy”. He was affectionately called Wallace Jr, Wallace, Daddy, Dad, Granddaddy, “Great Daddy” son, brother, uncle, friend and “Woofy”. Wallace was proceeded in death by his parents, daughter Elizabeth “Jackie” Purvis Clark, granddaughter Jaquleen Purvis, grandson Reginald Purvis, and all of his brothers Alton Jenkins, Joseph T. Purvis, Bobby G. Purvis and Gerald A. (Tony) Purvis. Wallace leaves to cherish his memory six children: Crystal Fogle (Philadelphia, PA), Tracy Josling (Lawrenceville, GA), Kimberly Roxanne (Lamont) Void (Brooklyn, NY), Trimane Kindreck Goddard (Clinton, MD), Wallace T Purvis (Danbury, CT) and Zipporah Rachael Purvis (Danbury, CT). 14 Grandchildren; Kiyu Donell Prince, Jr. (Danbury Ct), Donell Fogle, Alyssa Fogle, Andrew Grimes, Ari Grimes, Mark (Deondra) Jorsling, Wallace T McClarence, Diamond (Javarie) Powell, Keshawn Bostic, Paris Jorsling, Payton Brandon, Jeremy Nathan, Terrance Little, Terrell Little, Kelvin Purvis, Keyomi Purvis, and Kazmere Purvis. Six sisters; Joyce Carolyn Purvis of Greenville, NC, Verna Marie Payne (James) of Alexandria, VA, Agnes Purvis Clemons of Robersonville, NC, Brenda Faye Purvis of Williamston, NC, Debra Lynn Clayton (Theaoseus) of Raleigh, NC, and Barbara Michelle Purvis of Canal Winchester, OH; Three sisters-in-laws, Doretha Clemons Purvis, Carolyn Bunn Purvis and Nedra Kaye Harris. Two Aunts; Ester Lloyd Smith and Linda Cherry Smith; One uncle, George Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. His very special and dedicated friends; Gerald & Eva Edwards, Mary Ann Taylor and David Jones.
