Mrs. Verna Perkins

Mrs. Verna Perkins was born to the late Jessie and Julie Williams on April 18, 1937 in Pitt County, NC. She departed this life and returned to her heavenly home on Monday, May 17, 2021 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC. Mrs. Verna received her general education and nursing certification in Pitt County. Verna was employed at Fieldcrest Mills for over thirty years and worked part-time at Tar River Manor. Verna enjoyed helping others and after retirement she continued devoting her love and care to patients thru private duty nursing. Mrs. Verna was united in holy matrimony to James Perkins for over 60 years. Together they had six children and help reared many others. The love and bond they shared was unbreakable. Verna was devoted to her family and did whatever she could to make sure she was always there for them. Verna enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, shopping but most of all she loved putting in her work for God. Mrs. Verna was a faithful member of Friendship Holiness Church under the leadership of the Honorable Bishop Greswould and Pastor Bennette Wooten. She served as President of the Usher Board and later became Mother of the church. Verna later joined Kingdom Empowerment Ministries where she continued to serve as Mother of the church. Mrs. Verna was preceded in death by her two sons, James R. Perkins, William H. Perkins, Sr; one grandson, William Perkins, Jr; one granddaughter, Pillar Powell; parents, Jessie and Julie Williams; siblings, Shirley, Jessie, Kelly, AJ, TJ, and Jimmy Williams. Mrs. Verna leaves to cherish her memories and continue her legacy, her husband, James H. Perkins of the home; three daughters, Alice Ebron (Almichael) of Hampton, VA, Rosa Holloway (Vern) of GA, Joann Perkins of Greenville, NC; one son, Derek Perkins of Greenville, NC; twenty-six grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; two greatgreat grandchildren; three sisters, Dessie Williams of Greenville, NC, Florence Thomas of Goldsboro, NC, Ida Williams of Greenville, NC; two goddaughters, Trina Stevens and Tiffany Ross; one special godson, Javiaun Perkins. Mrs. Verna favorite quote… ”When I think of the goodness of Jesus and all He has done for me. My soul cries out Hallelujah. I thank God for saving me.
