Revelation 14:13 NLT A life that began….. It was on April 13, 1947, in Williamston, NC when William (Babe) Woolard and the late Verna Mae Brown Woolard welcomed the arrival of their second daughter Verna Carol, to the Woolard family. In her early years, she was taught family values, spirituality and a positive work ethic. She attended Rodgers Elementary and graduated from EJ Hayes High School in Williamston, NC. Upon her graduation from EJ Hayes, Verna briefly attended Elizabeth City State University. Shortly thereafter to further her horizons Verna relocated to Spring Valley, NY. That Climbed so high…… Her life and work career took many paths. One of these paths led her to meeting the love of her life, Harold Brown. After dating for several years they entered into the union of marriage on June 27, 1973. To this union they brought forth one son, Jeffrey Chris and two daughters, April Tara and Shannise Desiree. After giving birth to her children, Verna made the decision to dedicate her time to her family and happily became a home maker for several years. After successfully raising their now adult children, Verna refocused her energy on furthering her education. In 1998 she graduated with honors from Rockland Community College, achieving her Associates Degree in Business. With her degree in tote she then set her sights on her career path. Verna was soon employed as a librarian and then promoted to Secretary to the Dean at Rockland Community College. Verna later worked as a loan officer in 2008 at WMC Mortgages and retired as a licensed tax preparer for H&R Block. That reached the hearts of many…… Verna had an infectious laugh, she loved the Lord and her family. She had many hobbies, some of which included Scrabble, gardening, sewing, interior design, movie going and spending with time with Neeka (her grand dog). In 2012 she relocated to Georgia and joined the City of Zion Christian Ministry, where she was a faithful tither. In 2014 she relocated to California with her daughter Shannise and her soon to be son-in-law Adam Fermin. It was in California that Verna was first diagnosed with 4th stage lung cancer. During her 1 year battle with cancer she fought the good fight of faith and remained positive, hopeful and determined until the end. Verna entered into eternal rest on April 17, 2015, at the home of Adam and Shannise where she was surrounded by her husband, her children, her new son-in-law and Neeka. She was preceded in heavenly rest by her Mother, Verna Mae Woolard, and her sisters, Doris Jean Woolard and Dianne Woolard Wilkins. Her memories will be forever treasured with love by her father William (Babe) Woolard, Williamston NC, her husband of 41 yrs, Harold Brown, Spring Valley, NY, her son Minister Jeffrey (Linda) Brown, LaVergne, TN, her daughters, Deacon April Brown, Bowie, MD and Shannise (Adam) Fermin, Foster City, CA. Her siblings, Hattie Peel, Mary Woolard, Angela (Vincent) Dorsey and Willie Woolard. Her grandsons Myles and Terrell Brown and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
