Vera Mae Brodie, a cherished soul and beloved member of her community, was born to Essie and Dan Campbell in Baltimore, Maryland, on the 7th of July, 1955. Her journey through this life came to a peaceful close on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina. Lovingly nicknamed “Bim Mae” by her siblings, Vera embarked on her educational journey in Baltimore County, culminating in her graduation from Randallstown High School. With aspirations to contribute meaningfully to society, she pursued further education at Catonsville Community College with a focus on criminal justice, a path she paused to embrace the joys of motherhood with the arrival of her adored daughter, Chantel (Chan). Vera's professional life was a testament to her resilience and versatility, exploring various fields before discovering her calling in law enforcement. Her career spanned roles as a Correctional Officer, and positions within the Sheriff Department and Wackenhut Security. Vera's adventurous spirit led her and Chan to new beginnings in Greensboro and High Point, North Carolina, where she continued to pursue her passions and explore new horizons. Her life was rich with companionship, especially highlighted by her rekindled relationship and subsequent marriage to Marvin T. Brodie. Together, they shared many joyful years in Baltimore before retiring to Greenville, North Carolina, where Vera's love for life continued to shine brightly. She found joy in simple pleasures like dining out, traveling, cherishing moments with her grandchildren, and indulging in her love of shopping for fine jewelry, and amethyst stones. Vera's kitchen was a place of warmth as she enjoyed cooking. Her voice was a source of comfort as she led many songs with the Evangelical Baptist Church Mass Choir, reflecting her acceptance of Christ as her personal Savior. Vera Mae Brodie was preceded in her journey to eternity by her father, Dan Campbell, bonus dad, Junius W. James; sister, Dorothy L. Cherry; brother-in-law, Tyrone Cherry; sister-in-law, Marthe C. Campbell; and aunt, Mamie Jefferson; and other dear family members, but her spirit and love remain with us, guiding and inspiring. Vera's legacy is carried on by her loving husband, Marvin Tyrone Brodie, Sr.; three children, Chantel White (Seattle, WA), Marvin T. Brodie, Jr. (Manchester, NJ); and Tara I. Brodie (Greenville, NC); six grandchildren, Dereck White (Seattle, WA) Marvin T. Brodie, III, Marvon, Markia, Jai’Ere, Mar’ciana, and Ja’zier (New Jersey); five great-grandchildren; mother, Essie M. James, (Baltimore, MD); three siblings, Chakeia Ragin (Mike) of Odenton, MD, Willie J. Campbell (Marsha) of Baltimore, MD, and Shirley A. Cathorne (Baltimore, MD); two brothers-in-law, William C. Eley (Gloria) of Hampton, VA; Elsie Snead (Fairfield, NJ), one aunt, Daisy M. Campbell (Baltimore, MD), nieces, nephews, and a community of friends and relatives touched by her kindness, strength, and unwavering spirit. Her journey was marked by the love she shared and the lives she touched, leaving behind memories that will forever be cherished by those who knew her.
