Mr. Robert Porter

Robert Lee Porter, Jr was born on March 18, 1943 in Edgecombe County, NC to the late Luraney Pippins Porter and the late Robert Porter. He departed this life on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at ECU Health-Edgecombe, Tarboro, NC. Robert moved to Connecticut in the late 1960’s. On July 14, 1967 he married the love of his life, Letha Mae Roberson. He worked at Latella Carting as a truck driver, SCSU and at Yale New Haven Hospital as a Environmental Aide for twenty-five years. Robert moved back to North Carolina after his retirement to help take care of his mother. Robert would cruise around Robersonville and stop and chat with his friends and visit his brother until his health declined. He would call his baby sister, Bernice when he wanted his favorite popeyes chicken. Robert would enjoy having visits from his aunt Lula Mae, she would come and pray with him. Robert loved listening to his old music, he would bob his head to the beats. Robert also enjoyed talking about his younger days he would talk for hours and laugh, saying those were the good “ole days.” Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Luraney Pippins Porter; his father, Robert Porter; his stepdad, John Barnes; two sister, Isabelle Porter-Hyman, Martha P. Chance; three nephews, Ernest Porter, Jahmil Hyman and Edrick Chance. Robert leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of fifty-six years, Letha Porter; five children, Doletha Roberson-Grier (Michael), Bernice Porter, Tammie Porter all of New Haven, CT, Audrey Porter, Robert Porter, III both of the home, his grandson that he help reared and played a very important role in his life, Marquis Roberson; eighteen grandkids; five great-grandkids; one sister, Bernice Porter-Garnett (Carl) of Greenville, NC; one brother, Arthaniel Porter of Greenville, NC; sister-in-law, Annie Roberson-Ewings; two brothers-in-law, William Roberson, Freddick Chance; longtime friends, Williams Rollins and Connell Campbell; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Robert would always begin his conversation with hello kiddo for his children or hello kid for everyone and end his conversation with “I’ll plant you now and dig you later.”
