John 11:25 Surrounded by family, PEACTRIC ADAMS SHIVER transitioned from labor to her heavenly reward on Monday, October 9, 2023, at Duke University Hospital, Durham, North Carolina. She was born April 1, 1949, to the late James Henry and Kadorias Worthington Adams. Peactric was a resident at the Brookstone Living Center, Pollocksville, NC, for several years. She accepted her illness in stride and never complained. Instead, she was always uplifting and encouraging others. Peactric attended the Pitt County Schools and graduated from C.M. Eppes High School in the Class of 1966. She also attended Pitt Technical Institute, now Pitt Community College. Her employment career in the healthcare field included working at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, for the late Dr. Andrew A. Best and she was one of the first African Americans to work in the Greenville Dialysis Center. She was also employed at Bell South, Union Carbide and Proctor and Gamble. Peactric joined Holy Trinity United Holy Church at an early age and served until her health prevented her from attending. She served in the following ministries: Bible Church School, Hospitality and Kitchen Committee, Mass Choir, Choir No. 1, Helping Hand Club, and the Singles Ministry. Peactric was married to the late Leland Jones, Jr. She later married the late William Davenport Shiver. Peactric truly loved her family and loved spending quality time with her children, grandchildren, siblings, and other family. She enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. She was an avid reader and loved working puzzles. Peactric was predeceased by her grandparents, Ben Frank and Bertha Heritage Worthington; her parents, James and Kadorias W. Adams, brothers, Gary and Brantley Adams, and sisters, Mother Norma Worthington Byrd, and Marie Adams. Peactric leaves to cherish her precious memories four sons, Leland “Andy” Jones, Greenville, NC, William E. “Bill” Shiver (Jerusha), Raleigh, NC, Robert “Frank” Shiver (Monica), and Christopher Shiver, of Greenville, NC; one daughter, Altavia L. “Wanda” Robinson (Lee), Houston, TX, a bonus daughter, Monica Shiver; one stepson, William Charles Shiver (Gail), Greenville, NC; one brother, Dixie Alvin Worthington (Nikki), Portland, OR, two first cousins who were just like brothers, George Brown (Barbara) Greenville, NC, and Lester Brown (Emma), Virginia Beach, VA; sixteen Grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, family and friends.
