The Lord called his faithful servant Patricia Ann Grimes Short home on Monday, December 2, 2024. She made the transition at 7:33 am enroute to ECU Medical Center, Greenville, North Carolina. Patricia Ann Grimes Short, known to her friends and associates as Pat Short and “Ma Pat” to many young people who lives she touched giving them refuge in her home. She was born the second child to the union of the late James William and Mary Magdalene White Grimes on September 10, 1945, in Raleigh, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Magdalene Grimes; godparents, Ben, Jr. and Senia Ray; paternal grandparents, Asa and Sarah Grimes; maternal grandparents Edward White and Lena James; sister Willamena Grimes; and brother-in-law, Retired MSgt Bennie L. Moore. At a young age Patrica gave her life to Christ joining Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her death. Her greatest joy was her work with the Senior Saints Ministry providing spiritual elevation through fellowship and current information relating to medical, legal, and insurance needs; honoring seniors by recognizing their longevity; attempting to lift the spirits of those sick, shut in, or hospitalized; and celebrating with them through praise, worship, and feasting by giving thanks to God for the blessing of eternal life. She was reared in Greenville, North Carolina and attended the Greenville Public Schools, graduating from C.M. Eppes High School in 1963. She attended North Carolina Central University. She earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science, Business Administration in May 1990. On May 18, 1967, she married Private Henry Short. To this union was born one daughter, Braggnetta Patrice Reanea. Patrica had a variety of jobs during her life. Among them was teaching. She taught physical education at G. R. Whitfield School, Grimesland, NC. She began working for Burroughs Wellcome in Greenville, NC in the 70’s. When Burroughs Wellcome merged with Glaxo and moved its operations to Research Triangle Park (RTP), NC, she was among employees chosen to make the move. Later when Glaxo merged with Smith Kline, she remained with the company and retired as a Research Scientist in 2006. This position gave her the opportunity to travel back and forth to England on numerous occasions for the company. Upon retirement, she went back to substituting teaching at Wellcome Middle School and South Greenville Elementary School in Greenville, N C. Later in retirement, she became a Chief Judge for a One Stop Voting Site in Greenville, NC; and worked with the Golden Girls on the audit committee. Pat loved people and traveling. She never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone she could. For over 60 years she worked to keep the Class of 1963 connected by informing her classmates of happenings with members and traveling to their family activities to be supportive. She loved her high school alma mater’s alumni association and served as the membership chair for a number of years. A position she held at the time of her death. She was very proud of the fact that on several occasions her class had the most members in attendance at alumni functions. She was a loving and devoted mother, sister, and friend. She leaves to celebrate her transition and cherish her memory: daughter, Braggnetta Reid, Durham, N.C.; son-in-law, Andre Reid, Durham, NC; sister, Jamesena Moore, Bellevue, NE; niece, Marcia Moore Viklund, Stockholm, Sweden; nephew in law, Mattias Viklund, Stockholm, Sweden; great Nephew, Max Moore Viklund; special friend, Henry Short; a host of other relatives, god children and friends.
