Ms. Novella Carr

Psalms 23:1-3 KJV Mother Novella Richardson Carr, know to all as “BIG MAMA” was born on August 13, 1933 to the late Robie and Lucy Richardson in Pitt County. She was the last of nine children. Mother Novella gained her wings on December 21, 2022 at ECU Health, Greenville, NC. Mother Novella was lifelong resident of Pitt County and attended the Pitt County Schools where she played basketball. Mother Novella was employed at Biscuittown, W.H. Robinson School, Eastern Carolina Leaf, ECU-Todd Dining Hall, Alliance One International and New Wynn Chapel Church. Mother Novella found her Lord and Savior at an early age. She joined St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church where she found her love for singing. She moved her membership to New Wynn Chapel Church under the leadership of her adopted son, Pastor James T. Lindsey. Mother Novella song in the senior choir for many years and her favorite song to sing was “Hallelujah Any How.” She was ordained as a Mother of New Wynn Chapel Church where she became “BIG MAMA.” Mother Novella loved her Pastor and church family with all her heart. Mother Novella favorite TV show was Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud. We are going to miss her smile. Mother Novella was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Carr, Sr; her two daughters, Virginia Tatum, Margaret Johnson; her two sons, Julius Carr, Marvin Carr, Jr; her grandson, Joseph Johnson. Mother Novella leaves to cherish her loving and caring memories, daughters, Patricia Savage (Edgar) of Charlotte, NC, Cathy Carr (Denar) of San Antonio, TX, Doris Brown of Charlotte, NC; daughters/granddaughters whom she reared as her own, Bianca Tatum of the home, Genesa Tatum-Grimes (Celderick) of Raleigh, NC, Kaydesha Tatum of Greenville, NC; grandson whom she loved and help reared, Jaqouza and Malik Chavis of the home; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; Godchildren whom she helped reared and adopted, Camia Celious, Jerrell Gnatt, Devonta Clemons, Samantha Williams, Chaurice Lindsey Moore, Zy’ayre Powell, Elder Michele B. Downing, Brandon Wilson, Willie Mae Harrell, riding church partner Yolanda Hines and Bobbie Jones; best friend whom she loved, Curshenia Wilson; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mother Novella loved her Meadow Brook Community family whom she partakes in rearing everybody in the neighborhood and cooking for everyone. Mother Novella Richardson Carr will be deeply missed and continue to be loved by everybody she knows and hearts she touched. She loved her nephew, Jimmy Congleton and his staff at Congleton Funeral Home and Cremations.
