Mary Elizabeth Slade was born in Robersonville, North Carolina to the late William and Rubinell Slade on September 18,1949. She departed this life suddenly, but peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on June 3, 2024. Mary grew up in the small town of Robersonville where she attended to the Pitt and Martin County Public School Systems. She met Robert Lee Mitchell, Jr. During her teenage years and the couple welcomed Mary’s first and only child Coretta Lynn Mitchell (Whitfield-Barr). Mary lived the majority of her life working on the Farm “in the Bacca Fields” as she would call it. As a result of her love and compassion for people, Mary really enjoyed the years she worked as a Home Health Care Aide. She had a compassion for children, so she became a babysitter for many parents. Mary prided herself in her cooking “she made the best chicken and pastry and fried chicken!!” Mary also loved dressing, wrapping her turbans, sewing and she had a green thumb planting flowers and small trees, but the best of all was her hilarious and outgoing personality. No one was a stranger for her, she loved meeting and conversating with new people. She gave them interesting and funny nick names such as: Movie Star, Car Wash, Scratch Off, Porcupine, Yabba-dabba Doo, and the list goes on and on. She even nick named herself “Kelly Go Helly!!” “Kelly Go Helly” became extremely close to the Bell and Whitfield Family years ago, and she would often attend the Bell/Whitfield “Family Reunions and parties. Mary began to travel often from North Carolina to Baltimore, Maryland to bond with her daughter, grandchildren and little great-grandson. She would talk, laugh and agitated them for hours on end, but she never forgot to tell them how much she loved them. Everywhere Mary went, people connected with her and loved her Funny Personality. So much that She was crowned “Mayor of the Block” by her neighbors and friends in Baltimore. Mary made a strong impact on people everywhere and the memories will be cherished FOREVER!!! Unfortunately, Mary’s parents William and Rubinell Slade and her four siblings one brother, Skipper Gene Moore; three sisters, Geraldine Slade, Linda Morgan, and Harriet Baskerville and the love of her life Billy Keele had already succeeded in triumph before her. Mary leaves her precious legacy to her one and only child, Coretta Whitfield-Barr of Baltimore, MD; one Son in Love, Freddie Barr of Baltimore, MD; two grandson, Tyjuan Whitfield (Asia) of Baltimore, MD and Jayveous Whitfield of Baltimore, MD; one granddaughter, Corjamilia Clark of Baltimore, MD; one grandson in love, Cortez Clark of Baltimore, MD; one great-grandson, Ashton Whitfield of Baltimore, MD; one foster grandson, Willie Curtis of Baltimore, MD; three loving and caring sisters, Ms. Vanetta (Bonnie) Lloyd of New Haven, CT, Col Wilma Slade of Carey, NC, a devoted sister, Ms. Ruby Wooten of Oak City, NC and Ms. Gail Slade of Parmele, NC; special family and friends, Alton Slade, Tyron Slade, Shelia Harrington, Beverly Thompson and Ebony Whitfield all of N.C, Eunice Rush and Mary Brown of Baltimore, MD, Tony Whitfield of Little Rock, Arkansas; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friend. “Goodbye World I am Gone!
