Lynn Hayes “The Pioneer Of The Family” was born in Stokes, North Carolina on Sunday, February 9th, 1947. Lynn was the son to the late Sarah Virginia Hayes and the late Lonnie Hayes. Lynn was asked by God to drive the Big Bus for Heaven’s Transit. Lynn drove that bus into Heaven’s gates on Thursday October 12, 2023 in Greenville, North Carolina. Lynn received his early education in North Carolina. He graduated from Bethel Union High School in 1964. He relocated to Newark, New Jersey for a new beginning, where he enlisted in the “United States Army” and served his country in the “Vietnam War”. Upon returning home to New Jersey, he was employed by New Jersey Transit Authority until his retirement. Lynn loved all sports but when it came to playing soft ball that was his joy. He became a team member on various teams like Van Club, Cardinals, Indian and Transit softball leagues where his dedication and time brought many wins and awards. Lynn always loved having a grand time, skating was one of his many hobbies along with the western movies. Most of all he loved the children. Lynn stayed “Super Fly” and always looked his best when he stepped out. Lynn loved his fancy cars, and most definitely a ladies’ man. Lynn had a vibe about him, everyone loved to be around him because they knew they were about to have a good time. He was vibrant, fun-loving, funny, caring, and full of life. Lynn always spoke his mind in a respectful manner. Lynn was preceded in death by his three sisters, Lenora H. Ross (Rudolph), Dorothy M. Chapman (Jessie) Sarah E. Downing (Eugene); two brothers, Pria L. Hayes and Lonnie Hayes. Lynn is survived by his two daughters, Felicia Simmons (Ronald) of New Jersey, Deborah L Gregory (Harry) of North Carolina; one son, Alterique Barnes Sr. of New Jersey; nine grandchildren, Tariq McLean, Tauheed McLean, Tymil McLean (Kyuma), Caprice Simmons, Jasmine Henderson-Patterson (Samora), Christian Simmons, Alisha Barnes, Alterique Barnes Jr, Dija Barnes; seventeen great-grandchildren; three-great-great grandchildren; three brothers, Henry Hayes, Fred Hayes (Maryann), Jimmy Hayes; one sister-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; one special friend that became his sister, Hazel Edwards. One of his great grandchildren Messiah gave him the nickname Apollo Creed that stuck with him because he looked like the actor from the Rocky Movie. He loved every bit of hearing that nickname because he would say I'm an actor now.
