Ms. Lucille Taylor

Lucille Taylor (nee Tyre) was born on May 4, 1932 to Mary Belle (nee Bess) and Totten Tyre (both deceased) in Beaufort County, North Carolina. Having lived a full, eventful life, she departed this earthly life on December 16, 2017 at Vidant Medical Center (Greenville). Lucille leaves to cherish her memory two sisters, Annie Lee Grimes and Lillie Larkins; one brother, William Charles Larkin, all residing in Aurora; three adult children, Vernessa F. Taylor of Durham, Cecilia T. Barnes of the home, and Craig D. Taylor of Aurora, (son Robert C. Taylor, Jr. preceded her in death); three granddaughters, Santrisha Barnes Bishop (Maurice) of Greenville, Candice Taylor Jones (Michael) of Durham, and Kenisha Taylor Sullivan (Alex) of Tampa, Florida; eleven great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends. Her great-granddaughter, Angel, who was raised in the home with her, and her nephew Doris Earl Tyre, Jr. “DT” of New York were like her own children. She was preceded in death by her older brother, Doris Earl Tyre, Sr. “Buddy”, and older sister, Marie Tyre Peed. Lucille Taylor, affectionately known as “BabySis” or “Ms. Lucille” was a native of Aurora where she attended Snowden Elementary School and St. Peters Baptist Church. Married to the late Robert C. Taylor, Sr., she made her home in Brooklyn, New York for many decades before returning to Aurora and later residing in Greenville with her youngest granddaughter and daughter Cecilia. Lucille was known for her sassy wit, keen intelligence and timeless wisdom. Those who knew her well knew of her love for God, her dependence on Jesus, and how much she enjoyed reading the scriptures. Her favorite scriptures were two timeless ones: the 23rd Psalm and The Lord’s Prayer. Some might not know that she was quick to call upon her Congressman (or Congresswoman) and would even write the President of the United States if she thought they ought to hear from her when things weren’t going like they should! Her baby sister, Lil, says of Lucille: “She was like a mother to me. She was my best friend.” Lucille faced many challenges during her lifetime, but with the grace of God, never let them defeat her. She was a source of strength to many, extending kindness to both old and young. Although she will be missed and well-remembered, she would not want you to mourn, instead heeding the words of “Miss Me But Let Me Go.…”
