Linda Faye Cherry Smith peacefully departed this life on January 26, 2026. She was born on July 31,1948, in Robersonville, North Carolina, to the late Herbert Cherry and Josephine Cherry. Linda was raised in Robersonville, NC, where she graduated from East End High School in 1966. Following graduation, she served her community as a teacher assistant at West Martin School and worked in retail at a local store in Robersonville. Seeking new opportunities, Linda later migrated to Brooklyn, New York, where she began a long and faithful career with the New York Telephone Company, now known as Verizon. After 30 years of dedicated service, she retired, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, dependability, and professionalism. It was in Brooklyn that Linda met the love of her life, George Smith. The two were united in marriage on January 12, 1985, sharing 40 years of love, partnership, and devotion until George’s passing on February 15, 2025. Linda was a faithful Jehovah’s Witness and deeply enjoyed the fellowship of her brothers and sisters in the congregation. Her faith was evident in her kindness, her compassion, and the way she loved people. Known for her warm spirit, Linda was approachable, wise, and always ready with thoughtful advice. She had a love for singing and dancing—especially her signature shoulder moves that brought smiles to everyone around her. Above all, Linda loved people. She made others feel seen, heard, and cared for, and her presence brought comfort wherever she went. Linda Faye Smith’s life was one of love, service, faith, and joy. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Linda was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, George Smith; her parents, Herbert and Josephine Cherry; brother, James “Billy” Cherry She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted daughter, Rene Smith; four cherished grandchildren, Aaliyah Bearden, Brandon Wiggins, Jaiven Wiggins, and Devin Wiggins; one sister, Dalphine Goddard; three brothers, Ernest Cherry, Vernest Cherry, and Melvin Cherry; a beloved niece whom she viewed as her second daughter, Ciera Goddard; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who knew and loved her.
