God saw the road was getting rough, the hills too hard to climb. He gently closed her loving eyes, and whispered, peace of mind. Mother Lena Mae Brown Blount was born in Aurora, NC on July 8, 1933, to the late Redmond Brown and Matilda Blount. Surrounded by her family, she passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, January 1, 2026. Lena was raised in the Beaufort County area where she also attended school. Due to the untimely passing of her mother, Lena was blessed with many surrogate mothers along the way. At an early age, she moved to Pitt County and married James Blount. Lena lived a life marked by compassion and quiet strength. She made sacrifices to help raise her brothers and sisters. Lena was deeply cherished by the Spain family, with whom she worked for several years–an experience that marked the beginning of a lifelong passion of caring for others. Later she dedicated herself to providing loving care for the elderly through home health. Serving others was not just something she did, it was who she was at her core. Mrs. Lena joined Mt. Calvary FWB Church under the leadership of the late Bishop W.L Jones. She sang faithfully in the Senior Choir and was consecrated as a Mother of the Church, fulfilling her duties until her health declined. She served under several pastors including Bishop T.L Davis, the late Dr. Elmer Jackson, Sr. and currently, Bishop Henry Brown, Sr. Lena’s life was not void of adversity, yet she was a true survivor. Faith kept her anchored, and she often declared with confidence, “The Lord will make a way for me!” Words she lived by until the very end. Through hardship and challenge, she worked tirelessly to learn, to grow and to make a way for herself. True to her last name, Blount, she believed in dealing with people straight. What she said, she meant. She was honest, direct, and genuine, leaving no room for doubt about where she stood. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Blount, and brothers, William “Buddy” Brown and Elbert Anderson Jr. Lena is lovingly remembered by her son, James Blount of Greenville, NC; two daughters, Pastor Dianne Foreman of Ayden, NC and Sandra Combs(Robert) of Ohio; seven grandchildren, Shenita Ward(Carlton), Boris Barrett, Jr.(Charlene), Christopher Combs, Ari Combs, Brandon Combs(Rebeckah), Cynthia Combs, and Sierra Foreman; ten great-grandchildren, Bryson, Cadence, Aria, Roman, Jaxson, Hunter, Landon, NovaRae, Jayden, and Kyrie; one brother, Allen Thomas Anderson; four sisters, Rachel, Ree, Minerva and Mae Rose Anderson; one special sister, Emma Mae Jennings of SC; and one special nephew, Ray Jennings of SC. Also cherishing her memory is a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
