“I am ready to be offered, my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course and I have kept my faith.” Missionary Lela Mae Killibrew Brown, daughter of the late Delia and the late Charlie Killibrew, was born on February 2, 1922 in Martin County. She attended public schools in Martin County. She was married to the late George Edward Brown. To this union three children were born. A twin daughter preceded her in death. Missionary Lela Mae was a seamstress who enjoyed making clothes, quilts, sofa covers, pillows or anything related to material. She had many hobbies such as raising chickens, pickling, gardening, flowers, and fishing. Her number one priority was praying and caring for the sick. In her early years she accepted Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. In 1971, she and her husband welcomed the late Pastor, Elder James Lloyd and wife to come to their home. God began to bless and people came from near and far. Later, Holy Mission C.O.G.I.C. was founded on faith and prayer. She loved praying at the altar and Tarrying For The Holy Ghost. She held numerous job titles in the church: Missionary Board, Pastor’s Aid, and Helping Hand. Missionary duties continued at Lloyd’s Chapel and she became a Mother at Truth Temple C.O.G.I.C. She loved her husband, children, grandchildren, pastor, and church family. She was most famous for her “cheese biscuits and lemon meringue pie” she branded her family with an eloquent quote, “Stay with God and He will stay with you”. On Monday, August 29, 2016 at 12:39 pm she left us to receive her crown in Heaven. She leaves to cherish her memories, a devoted, loving daughter, Doris Brown Land of the home; a devoted son, George James Brown, Jr. of Brooklyn, NY; seven grandchildren, Lerick Land (Jackie) of Robersonville, NC, Elliott Land (Doris) of Greenville, NC, Darryl Land (Lil Mary) of Robersonville, NC, Sharon D. Brown, Aaron Brown, Cherrell Brown, Terrell Brown all of Brooklyn, NY; ten great-grandchildren, Poncho, Dorsette, Tee, Sheltony, Shell, Don, Andrea, Kyle, Keye, Quanza; nineteen great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Brown of Brooklyn, NY; five sisters-in-law, Blanche Brown, Ollie Moses, Dorothy Worsley and Janie Burns all of Williamston, NC, Lucille Brown of Colonial Heights, VA; brother-in-law, Clarence Brown of Willingboro, NJ; special friends of the family, Tina Seabrook of Brooklyn, NY, Pat Martin Gibbons of Long Island, NY, Jimmy Lloyd of Wilson, NC; Goddaughter, Amber Carr-McGregor (Scott) of Raleigh, NC; a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
