Mr. Joe Bonds

On August 30, 1930 a baby boy was born to the matrimonial union of the late Annie Elisa Johnson and the late Joe Mack Bonds, they named him Joe Henry. Joe Henry Bonds was raised in a God- loving home, Bible devotion was the first call to order on Sunday mornings. His mother and father taught him to be kind, confident, determined and to work hard. He attended Mt. Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church faithful until he was tasked to stay at home and take care of his beloved wife. Joe Henry attended E. J. Hayes High School and was captain of his basketball team. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1948. Joe served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. His confidence, determination and hard work lead him to achieve Officer Commission and he retired after twenty one years as Chief Warrant Officer 2. Joe Henry and his beloved Christine fell in love at the age of sixteen. They were married for sixty-six glorious and loving years. He loved Christine even while he took his last earthly breath on December 5, 2014. Two daughters were born of this union, Glenda and Gearlene. Joe Henry has traveled the world and retired from the U.S. Army in 1969. He was awarded the Army Commendations Medal. After military retirement he continued his career working as Procurement Officer for the Washington, DC, Department of Recreation for twenty years. Joe Henry earned an Associate in Arts and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, with a minor in Business Law. He attended Cameron State College, Lawton, OK., University of Maryland (overseas Branch), Frankfurt, Germany, Southeastern University and Strayer University, Washington, DC. Joe Henry retired from the Department of Recreation and continued living in Alexandria, VA for thirty years. He and Christine returned to Williamston in 1996 to care for his sick mother. Joe was devoted to his mother and cared for her until her death. Joe Henry was a model citizen of Williamston, respected by all and loved by family and friends. Joe Henry leaves to cherish his memories his daughters, Glenda Bonds Davis, Gearlene Frances Brown (Octavis); granddaughter, Monica Danielle Davis, great granddaughter Camille Davis, Clare Miller all of Alexandria, VA., a dear friend who was like a sister, Effie Thompson; cousins, Kent and Cleo Lee of Williamston, NC, Marva Beckly of Houston Texas, a caring neighbor, Naomi Robert of Williamston, NC, loving friends Donna, Hasina, Kiera Lewis all of Charleston, SC, Manuel and Kelly Iraheta of Alexandria, VA, a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
